Uh oh, I'm too late...

I sell my old bags at a consignment shop too, or on Craig's List. If you don;t mind my asking, Issmom, whicn one do you go to? I have one on Madison which is pretty good but I do take a huge loss.

I like the hobo. I almost bought the black box bag but decided that it was too heavy to have two. Plus, last season I bought three Balenciagas, and even though I love them, I think it was excessive...Because every new season a new style comes out that I love. But if you can et a Chloe, jump on it right away because they go so quickly.

I use a consignment place on Lexington. You always take a big hit but I guess I'm OK with that. I feel I've gotten what I am going to get from the bag -- if I spend big $ expecting to recoup it, then I'm not in the right business! When I drop it off, whatever I get back is sorta found money.

I've never used Craig's List. How does that work? I've thought about eBay but it seems cumbersome to deal with -- I buy plenty from them!

I have 'gotten' the hobo. I have a reliable source (see....I'm being cagey now...) and I'll have the bag in about two weeks time.

The only bag that I have two of in different colors is a Lambertson Truex bag that is a cute little trapezoid shape -- I have one in navy and one in pink. But they aren't every day bags -- they are understated and small. I use them as the accent on an otherwise statement-making outfit.

The Paddington hobo is $1.5k.

Issmom, you can just post your handbags on Craig's List on the For Sale page (under accessories). But to be honest the people on Craig's list are a pain to deal with - twice I have had people call and want to return the bags! And they did not have a good reason. They had come to see the bags and liked them and then suddenly decided the style was not fitting their wardrone or something. I felt badly but I had to say no because I am not a retail store, and it was not part of the contract (the lawyer in me). Anyway it is probably less hassle to deal with a consignment shop.

The one I go to sold my Luella for 395 and I got half, which was decent I guess...I am debating bringing my other bags to them.

So Issmom you have an in at Chloe? I am so jealous. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chloe. LOVE. LOVE. Tell me, are you on the Hermes list? BEcause I have tried FRUITLESSLY for months and gotten nowhere. A friend even tried to get me on the list and they said no! I am so mad now I am determined to get on that dumb list just to show then I can, LOL. EVen though the Oprah incident was shady.

I usually get my Chloes from Bergdorf's...I know a salesperson there who has made a good commission off me and now tries to get me on the lists...I am DYING to see their spring collection.

OK, I'm not using Craig's List! I don't want to deal with the purchasers AT ALL! I used to be a retail buyer and I had a strict, strict, STRICT rule that I would not speak to the customers. I didn't make commission, I wasn't going to deal with the issues. Maybe that didn't make me popular with my salespeople, but such is life!

I don't have an in at Chloe at all. I have an eBay seller who has an in and I use him a great deal. He's gotten me some really cool things. Not just Chloe. Trustworthy, that's the most important thing.

I just started being loyal to someone at Bergdorf's and I don't think either of us have proven ourselves to the other. She doesn't know she can count on me for X numbers of sales a year and I don't know that she can pull the tough-to-find things out of the closet. We'll see how that goes. I'm heading there for the Mulberry/Tod's/Nancy Gonzalez trunk shows in about two weeks. I don't know what that will bring.

What Hermes list do you want to get on? The only Hermes that I really want (one day) is an exotic color (not necessarily skin) Birkin. But that's something I'm going to have to further cultivate my husband for! He wants a Maserati. When he gets his Maserati, I'll get my Birkin!

The whole Balenciaga mania is the one that I have been totally untouched by. I visit the bags every time I go to Barneys. I think about what color I would get if I liked the bags, but I just don't. I guess I can consider myself lucky to have dodged that obsession!

Oh, the Birkin list. I just want the basic black. I love it. Well, the brown too. And the 2 years wait list would give me enough time to save the hefty 6k pricetag...But by the looks of things I won't be able to get on it...sob sob.

All you really need to do to get a salesperson to help you at Bergdorf's is buy one expensive item from them and get their card and tell them that in the future you will use them if they are willing to call you when the new merchandise comes in...The salesperson held my Silverado overnight for me, which they never do, because I called her to follow up...My sister had bought me my Bottega from her and we just chatted with her a lot and whenever I am in the store I say hello.

Definitely not worth it for Craigs List because to be honest, the people are cheap and annoying. They email me asking if I will sell them my Botkiers or Tod's Diana purse (the older style) for $100! I am like, who the heck are you kidding? One girl asked to buy a Prada from me for $35! But it can pay off - I had one woman buy a Botkier trigger for $325, which was a pretty good price. You have to be persistent and willing to deal with some annoying, nutty people. Which is what my job requires anyway, LOL.

BTW, good that you don't like Balenciaga, because even though I love mine, I spent almost four thousand on them and now wish I had used it to go on my vacation to Thailand, which I now cannot afford, LOL.

issmom, where were you a retail buyer? i used to be a buyer at barneys! also, are you sure you can trust this ebay seller to sell you authentic merchandise?
I was at Tiffany & Co. for almost a decade.

Yes, I can trust this guy. We've been doing business together for a while and everything he has said and done and sold has checked out 110%. But eBay is a bit of the Wild West and you do have to be careful!

My Balenciagas are black (le dix), teal/acqua (le dix) and white (the hobo). The white one got really dirty unfortunately..If I was goin to buy another (which I want to; I want the bigger motorcycle one) I would get the maroon/wine colored one. It is really nice. So is the caramel.
