I think OPI Gelcolor needs a thread of it's own instead of being tossed around over in the "other" thread.

I'm starting off with a photo. This is OPI Gelcolor in "My address is Hollywood". It's my first OPI Gelcolor. I've used Axxium before, but they are in pots and have their own set of issues.

I use dry brushed Shellac base on all my SOG manicures. I am afraid to try anything else being that I've had bad experiences ruining my nails trying to get different brands of SOG base off. Shellac works best for me. I've read some places that OPI Gelcolor base soaks off easily, so I might try it.

This brand really did go on like butter......melted butter. You need so very little on the brush or your going to have it running into your cuticles and off the sides of your nails.

It was very smooth, no bumps.

Gotta love the OPI colors. Nicely pigmented. Good colors.

I had shrinkback from the free edge of my nails that was difficult to correct. I capped the edge with base etc.. but the gel polish would not stay on the edge. I kept going back and just painting the very tip of the free edge. It was difficult not to have it look like a had a bit of tip wear. This was annoying to me and would be something that would keep me from buying more colors of this brand, unless I can figure out a technique to resolve the issue, or if using the OPI base resolves the issue.

I like the way it feels on my nails, smooth and strong. We'll see how long it lasts. I usually go 8-12 days. One week when I get sick of the color. At about the 11 or 12 day mark little nicks start turning into big chips and it's all gotta come off.

This was a perfect color for my short nails. I have no patience for nursing cracks on the sides of nails until they grown out. I had to cut a lot of nails down to get them somewhat even with two really bad cracks/snags pretty far down on my nails.

Bought OPI gel at Sephora today. The color is "Iris I was Thinner".

The sales lady assured me that it would absolutely not cure under CFL UV light. I thought it would, since the Gelcolor branded polish does.

First pic, swatch on the left is cured in LED lamp, right cured in CFL UV lamp

Second pic, bottle size of Gelshine is smaller than regular OPI, but plenty in there for all the nails I'll ever want to polish.

Third pic, brush size is about the same on each, although Sephora Gelshine polish has a shorter stem.

I added glitter polish on a couple just for kicks!

Yeah, I think it cures fine in regular CFL lamp too. Sales people are told to tell us we MUST have the system, so that's what they say.

They definitely won't guarantee the results if you don't use their light.

So who has all kinds of $$$'s to buy every different brand of UV lamp??

Thanks for the great info:smile1: So how expensive is the small bottle??

Geez- I've been wanting to try OPI Gel. The small bottle of gel shine ($17.50 at Sephora) is as expensive as the OPI gel color in larger bottle but I need something else from Sephora and that will help me get my free shipping so I guess it will work out in the end. Now if I can just decide what color to go with. Will post swatches when I do! And let you know how it works with my UV lamp and gelish system!

Gelshine at Sephora is $17.95 and then tax. I have a store nearby so I can pick up and not pay shipping. One bottle was $19.10 including tax. The whole reason I buy from Sephora is to be able to go in to the store and look at the colors. They have open bottles of each color so you can take the brush out and see what it looks like in real life. The bottles for purchase are double shrink wrapped (which I think is nice).

Tried OPI Gelcolor base coat (with shellac color coat). I was very surprised that the base coat was not tacky after curing for 1 min under UV CFL. It was more smooth and dried like a regular nail polish base coat.

It actually made the Shellac go on easier.

I have read many posts stating that OPI Gelcolor is easiest to remove, which is my goal. Gelish is way to hard to remove for me. Leaves bits of base all over, even after a good 10 minute soak off. I currently use Shellac base for every color/brand of SOG, but would switch to OPI if it proved as good or better in removal.

My nails in Ink.

LOVE!!! My top lemming right now

I am wondering too! Will be interested to hear your results. Shellac is easier to remove but it also tends to chip and peel on me. I get much better wear out of gelish but I have the same problem with removal. I even use heat and soak off for close to 20 minutes! I wish I could find something with good wear like gelish but easier removal. I am very hard on my nails. Please report back :)
