Hello TPF members,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience as to purchasing online from Cartier? If so, does the online site charge you taxes?!?! If not then I'd rather purchase online! TIA!!!

They don't charge you tax if there is no cartier in your state. The advantage of buying online is that if you want to return it, they refund your money vs. only giving you a store credit.

aww shucks! Guess I better go to the store! ;)

If you are in California you will be charged online tax for any purchase after the law goes into effect on September 15.
GLAD I live in Hawaii!!!

Noooooo this is sad :-( I enjoy no taxes on amazon haha....does anyone know if there's a cartier in Oregon?

There is not. Just had a love shipped to Oregon...no tax! I would recommend calling vs. ordering online. Service is outstanding.

Good luck!

I have family up there so if my parents let me get anything ( BIG HINT IN RED LIGHTS) it will be cheaper to have it shipped there and then back to SoCal! ( hopefully they get it:) )

Even if you have it shipped elsewhere such as Oregon or buy it while you are visiting another state, when you bring it into California you owe 'use tax' which equals the sales tax less any local tax you paid. Most people don't fess up and pay it, but you still owe it. Bottom line: In California, there is no legal way to make a sales tax free purchase. Theres a difference between not being charged tax and not owing tax. I got busted on this so I learned the hard way!

Yeah, I hate paying sales tax as much as the next guy and I wish there was a legal way around it. People simply don't know the law and think that because an vendor dosen't charge tax that the purchase is tax free...it isn't. Take a look at your California income tax return and you'll see a line that says something to the effect of 'purchases made without sales tax'. That's where you should be listing all of those no tax charged purchases and pay up...nobody does though!

For the record, as much as I hate paying sales tax too, taxes do help with things like road repair, fire and police response, libraries and other things that make our society function. The reason why California had to make these laws is because so much tax revenue was lost to companies like Amazon. I don't like it either, but I do see the point of paying Sales Tax.

I just hate paying it on big expensive purchases like Cartier! Lol

Just out of curiosity, how would they ever catch you on such a purchase? If I have a residence in CA and OR, I don't see how I'm obligated to pay use tax for purchases sent to my OR residence.

I would think it is very hard for them to catch it. Love bangle is expensive but in terms of absolute tax amount it is not huge. Besides if you want to ship to relatives out of state you it will be using their names right?
