Once you buy H bags do you ever go back?

I’ve owned other Hermes bags for a few years now, but after buying a Kelly, I feel like I finally completely understand what the hype is about. Now I can’t see myself ever wanting a bag that isn’t from Hermes again, because I feel so strongly that the confident of Hermes just isn’t matched by other brands.

I bought the bag on the resale market, so it’s not even like this is the high of getting offered a bag. I really just love the bag! Did/does anyone else feel this way? I’ll still use the bags I already own from Chanel, Gucci, Celine, etc., but I just can’t see myself buying from other brands again unless something really specific pops up that I want.

Anyways, I feel like I’ve totally drunk the Kool-Aid now, and I’d be shocked if I’m alone. Does anyone else relate?
You'll notice many here do, if you peruse this thread. ;)

I never thought I would want any bag other than H, My bag collection consists of a decent spread of brands, although the most bags I posess by one house are my H ones - I have Celine, Marc Jacobs (from pre 2010,), Chloe, Loewe, Vintage Chanel,Vintage Gucci and Dior, as well as brands like Simone Rocha,Valentino, Marni, Pauric Sweeney, and a very very early Balencianga Motocycle bag (from around 2003/4?) that is totally totally trashed and I keep going to throw away or give to a young grungy/boho ex-assistant of mine...But I just cannot part with it.
On the back of that I find I am hankering after another Balenciaga bag specifically the Rodeo ( a dear fashion buyer friend of mine says they will never speak to me again if I buy that 'Kelly' mash up:shocked:.) and I'm a bit obsessed with the Bel Air.
Prior to this I rather wanted a Row Margaux but I've gone off that idea.
Now I think my non H bag purchase will be Balenciaga

I have 9 H bags now (5 quotas) and still wear them in rotation with my Loewe Puzzle and Goyard St Louis mostly

Also started wearing a vintage LV Saumur again where I had the vachetta replaced (looks new again)

While I think H has the highest quality they don’t have bags for every life situations (pouring rain? LV canvas or Goyard it is) and I also enjoy other designs very much (Loewe Puzzle, most used because so practical and love the edgy design)

That being said I tend to hold off from purchasing from any other brand when I’m on the list for a QB like right now

But the LVxMurakami collection did make me curious again, so I got an SLG. Haven’t bought LV bags since 2012 I think, but I do get an SLG every now and then if there’s a particular colour/design I want

TLDR: Hermes is my favourite brand, but I enjoy wearing other brands as well

While my H bags are my most loved... I haven't reached the point yet where I am willing to "Jane Birkin" my Birkin ala the Olsen twins. Plus, I am a lone wolf amongst my family and friends regarding luxury goods/bags and don't want to come across as pretentious.
My H bags are for going out or when I'm in a situation where I know I can be careful of them.
I use my MZ Wallace metro tote for airplane personal item (usually with an H bag inside for going out when traveling).
I have a Coach Empire Carryall for work.
I may throw on my Longchamp tote here and there.
My new LV Speedy 25 has become a workhorse in terms of an everyday purse outside of work.

Now, H has made me much more discerning when it comes to spending C/K/B money on other brands- for example, I won't be planning on a Chanel classic flap with reports of down sliding quality.

For me, the answer so far is no—since I started buying Hermes bags, I haven’t been interested in buying non-Hermes bags.

I actually got rid of (sold) my other designer bags from Celine, D&G, and Chanel (except for 2 Chanel bags that I’ll probably never get rid of—one black classic flap with GHW from back when Chanel still gold-plated their hardware and their leather was better quality than it is now and one small boy bag with ruthenium hardware that I really like the look of, don’t have anything else similar to, and have many years of fond memories attached to).

Not only do I personally find Hermes bags to have superior quality to other current designer bags I’ve seen/touched in-person, but I also prefer the look of them. To me, some other designer bags look “cool” but when I see Hermes bags I think, “wow, beautiful!” :tender:

I also probably won’t buy silk scarves from anywhere besides Hermes because their colors and quality are the most amazing.

That being said, I still buy things other than bags from other brands (jewelry, shoes, other accessories, small leather goods, electronics, furniture, homeware, cosmetics, etc.).

Yes, my curated lifetime collection in order of acquisition shows that that once I discovered/appreciated Hermes quality that I stopped buying other brands - and saved $$ necessary to only get the H bags I coveted. Now I'm absolutely done with my bag acquisition and super happy with my 10 bag collection - will not trade/sell any of them. Goal now is to actually USE and enjoy them while concentrating $$ saving on having great experiences and vacations!

I’ve mostly culled my Hermes collection in favor of bespoke.
Birkins and Kellys are far too recognizable right now. I have kept a two birkins, a HAC, and three Kelly’s along with a few non-Quota bags.

While Hermes bags are still the best made mass market luxury brand, the current craftsmanship is inconsistent, and overall not as good as bags made 10+ years ago.

Then there is the hoops you need to go through in order to purchase said bags. I decided that for me, I’d rather go through artisans Peter Nitz or Mila Jito, et al.

My new Mila Jito Dearling 26 does everything Kelly does and it’s so much easier to open and close. The design, craftsmanship and stitching are exquisite. It’s dark red Novonappa (barenia) with rose gold metallic chèvre interior. The only drawback is that production takes six to nine months.

So, there is life after Hermes.

Hermes doesn't offer large and lightweight totes and weaved baskets (Kelly Picnic is too formal and I am not comfortable paying the price + prespend for a summer basket) so these are the two categories I get from other brands. I mostly get baskets from Loewe or local shops when travelling. Currently obsessing over Y tote by Saint Laurent so its probably going to be my spring purchase.

I find that I still reach for my Chanel bags for evenings/going out purposes since they make some really classic, pretty styles so I still buy Chanel here and there;however, with all the huge price increases I have definitely slowed down a lot with purchasing. I feel like the price for value ratio has shrunken a lot for me, personally. For rainy days I reach for my Prada bags, nylon and saffiano make me feel more weatherproof LOL. 😂 I would definitely say Prada is my second favorite brand as I love a lot of their styles, especially love the Galleria tote and my nylon backpack! With the LVMH brands, speaking from personal experience only, I’ve been having the worst luck quality wise all around from peeling handles on my Lady Dior, hardware losing color/canvas peeling on my LVs, and I’ve stopped buying altogether. IDK if it’s just my bad luck or if things have taken a massive downturn, but I just lost any desire to buy anymore. Basically, I’m not singularly buying Hermes, but it’s definitely the best bang for buck in my opinion and I just fill in gaps for certain niches that work better for me with other brands :)
