On the look for a new setting...

Sorry about your accident Ame, it's no fun when you feel like all the cars on the road are coming right at you now! The feeling does go away eventually...

I don't have any ideas for new settings, but I can totally commiserate on the limited 6 prong options. There's a lot of nice 4 prongs out there, but like you I only want 6. I ended up in an estate Tiffany setting, while it's nice, it doesn't excite me...I'm always on the lookout for something more feminine but no stones or mil grain...I can't wait to see what this thread comes up with!

When I think classic 6 prong,I think traditional tiffany, knife edge (love that) and 6 prongs.

Good luck, Ame. I empathize on the difficulties after a car accident. I had an accident where a car decided not to turn left but instead turn right directly into my drivers' side. My husband hates driving with me because I am always anticipating what other drivers are going to do.

Right now I have a suspicion that everyone is going to do something insane and hit me. I am overly sensitive. It terrifies me!

I have a suspicion that I will end up with a Tiffany style "copy" but I will be curious if something grabs me that is posted in here. I did ask about some smaller Star sidestones IF they can dupe mine in a smaller sides but I do think that's going to be unrealistic in budget.

I was hoping I'd have MY ring back by now but it's still not here. My insurance company wants the estimate and all my associated paperwork (letter of authenticity we got from Vatche, etc, appraisal with images of the Vatche stamp), so they can start the claim part while I figure all this out, but I don't have anything to give them OR any of this figured out yet. I haven't fallen in love with anything. My brain is in the "I need to have it set into something I like because I need closure" place.

My list right now is this:
http://www.ajaffe.com/classic-6-prong-solitaire-engagement-ring-me1560 (IF I can get a real answer on them setting it high)

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/e...pered-tiffany-style-half-round-platinum-5540p

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/e...assic-tiffany-style-half-round-platinum-5478p

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/diamond-faceted-crown-platinum-5687p (not as familiar with the brand)

and perhaps a three stone with darker blue sapphire sides. But that's probably way more than I can swing in the budget, most of the three stone settings I like are in the $1600-$2000 range without factoring in side stones. I considered a three stone with star sides but I am not sure we can get two identically cut stars in a smaller size PLUS a setting in a budget I can handle. Jon at GOG is looking into the Star stuff. I haven't seen a lot out of Star lately that's been impressing me. The company that runs them now doesn't seem to cut them as well anymore as I am used to seeing. I think that's a brand GOG should totally take over. Not that he doesn't have enough on his plate.

I love the Tapered Tiffany Style Half Round the best, those are all beautiful rings! Can't wait to see what your choice ends up being. Good luck with the ring search, so sorry to hear about the accident.

I like it from all the views except face on... That I would need to check into more. I don't really want to see that much metal. I think you can see like a "ring" of metal around the stone. Do you see what I mean?

I see what you mean. I thought you might like more of the stone exposed on the sides...aside from that, is it a little reminiscent of you Royal Crown? I love that too. And the Swan. Are you not interested in Vatche for now?

Yea the side view is what I liked about it a lot. Similar but still kind of unique. Geometric.

The Swan is nice, but nothing will sit flush with it. I can handle a small donut like those BGD Tiffany ones, but part of why I don't want another Vatche is based on my experiences thus far. The jeweler did a good job advocating, I felt, but we both felt that the "remake" rules with them were pretty much a take it or leave it, and neither of us was down with that.

My ring is back at the local jewelers. I asked that they do go ahead and unset it. I am working on getting the inscription redone bec it was kind of impossible to see after all the resets, and then I will just have it locked up til I make a decision. What was sad to learn: my prongs are apparently very thin, to the point of "not safe." So I guess that's one way to discover it.

My stone is going back to GOG tonight to be inspected and reinscribed. The inscription was gone completely (SERIOUSLY concerning!) and the setting is going to Chubb as well.

It's possible it faded with time and resets, it's possible the carbon dust (what "fills in" the clear lasered area to make it appear black and visible) is gone from repeated cleaning and resets, or in an extreme case, it's possible something happened that I am not privy to and it was polished out on a wheel. That would be the only actual way it literally was removed. I am really hopeful it's not that last part, and can't believe that could've actually happened, but that's why GOG is receiving it today to confirm and reinscribe as necessary. When we couldn't find it, all of my sense, knowledge and clarity fell out of my brain and hit the floor in a fit of panic. I inspected it myself with the 30x, and more than one jeweler did so under scopes. Not one could find it. If it's lost the "filler" to make it visible, it will be hellish to find but will still be there. But when no one could find a trace at all, that made me lose my marbles. Hopefully GOG can find it and all will be fine. It arrives there this morning in a couple hours.
