I just returned from Paris. No success in getting a croc/leather birkin but I did manage to pick up a gorgeous shoulder Kelly in rouge venitien.
hermesluvaffair - Congrats on your shoulder Kelly. Did you see any non exotic Kelly and Birkins in Paris ? The Euro is so weak that it really is tempting to go just to hunt for these goodies. Care to update us on the price of your shoulder Kelly ? TIA.
No Kellys/Birkins on shelf - exotic or leather. It's mostly a hit and miss.....a miss quite often really! So don't count on definitely getting one if you travel to Paris.....but definitely shopping is great because of the favorable exchange and there is alot to see and do in Paris. The shoulder Kelly in clemence is 5650.

Gosh, didn't expect it is so difficult to get a birkin now given that the economy downturn. I only have 2 days in Paris in Oct. Which store you think I may score better luck?
I was there for 5 days. I guess chances of getting a Kelly/Birkin increases if you have more days to spend in Paris. Definitely visit both stores, although FSH may be a better bet. You wouldn't think there is any economic downturn, Paris is teeming with people all spending away and you should see the long lines queuing at the airport trying to claim back VAT!
Should I try the Hermes in Athens then? Will it be a lot more expensive if were to get from Athens instead of Paris?
nope don't bother with athens if you want a 25, 30, 35 or 40 cm birkin... they have 50 cms readily available though... they also had a bleu abysse shoulder kelly last week , very nice... oh and a few SO kellys....
the irony is that if you are entitled to claim VAT refund, the same item is cheaper in athens than in paris (you can get about 12% back in athens, which you can get in cash at the airport. in paris, the refund is about 8-10% and you have to wait 5-8 weeks for the refund via credit card).
athens also had a couple of croc kelly wallets (ciel and bleu abysse) just under 5000 euros (about 4600 or 4800 euros, sorry can't really remember) before VAT refund, pretty good pricing compared to here in singapore...
as for getting a birkin in fsh, persistence pays off and if you keep going back, you may just get lucky...

Hermesluvaffair - Thank very much. I guess I won't just fly there for the weekend and risk getting disappointed. Maybe best to wait until October when everything is a bit slower.
I'll go to Paris next week for only one day. It would be great if I could find a nice Birkin but I guess I have to be very, very lucky to find a Gris T. Birkin

.I thought the vat refund in Paris is 12%? Is Hermes giving lower refund % for purchases made in France compared to other European countries? Please advise. Thanks!
