Actually, this IS an actual routine procedure most clinics perform, before a chemical peel. And with acetone it mostly evaporates, not absorbs, before touching the skin. mostly those who work in factories around LARGE quantities are at risk, but small amounts, like nail polish removing, facial peels, and using for house cleaning purposes, are mostly harmless, excluding the minority who is allergic or prone to adverse reactions. Sad many assume, or are misinformed about acetone. Our bodies and plants actually produce the chemical itself naturally, to break down fats. Anyway before I get all scientific and off track, here's a link that will better explain what I believe this woman was trying to propose, and YES it CAN give benefits, and again, it's COMMONLY used to prep the skin before a Vi-chemical peel.. I do it myself, NO BURNING, NO DAMAGE, and it DOES FEEL GREAT AFTERWARDS.. JUST SAYING..

WOW - I had no idea people did this. The smell of remover irritates my eyes while I'm using it on my nails, so I can't even imagine getting it too close to my face at all!

I'm a licensed Esthetician and can verify that, yes, we do use acetone (sometimes mixed 50/50 with alcohol) to prep the skin for a chemical peel and/or other topical skin procedures. However, I do not recommend that it be used regularly to control oil because it may do the opposite (oil glands may produce more oil to make up for acetone stripping the skin of natural oil).
