hi fleurs! :welcome:

i took a stroll through the catalog, and it looks like everything is "offered without reserve." smart move, as it gets the bidding going, and there's little chance anyone is going to get one of these babies on the cheap.

will you be going to the auction?

Hi DQ

Interesting about the reserve, I know that Christies quite oftenly have low reserves on Hermes bags etc to encourage bidding so they may have skipped the reserve concept altogether for this auction. I think there will be a bidding frenzy and as you say smart move.

Can't believe the Buyers Premium is 25% either, normally it's 20% up to $500,000! Looks like the extra 5% is paying for all the glossy promo literature! Perhaps if I send mine back I'll get 5% off?

I've tried to reduce the size of the Evening Standard article to a size small enough so I can upload to tPF. But after a few hours of trying I've given up. Arrgggh!!

I think I'm going to be a good girl and stay at home and not attend the auction tempting as it is. If I happen to be in London early that week I may have a snoop at the viewing days - 9th - 11th September.

Do you think you'll be on the telephone bidders hotline? They are pretty helpful.

Best wishes

Fleurs.

Fleurs,
thanks so much for your info . I know what you mean about the bidding frenzy.
Recently I was online for an auction for some Bolides. I can not believe how much they went over estimate. Then there was the Auction House fees on top. I cant believe that I was soo gullible to think I might get a bargain!!!
Like you say, I think this auction will get a load of media coverage!!:cursing:
Gosh, all that croc!!!

Pazt...this is the best eye candy!
CB...right there with you sister....who knew there was so much fabulous crocodile to be had? Chartreuse? Hunter Green? BRAISE!!?? ROUGE H???? OH.MON.DIEU.

off to take a cold shower....

God these are fabulous. I think I might have to do the same, DQ (and I make fun of people who buy those things!! LOL!!).

After this was initially posted, I was actually trying to talk my DH into a little jaunt to London "for my birthday" but he was having none of it. I kept pestering him, and finally he said, "I KNOW about all the croc bags at Christies! You're not pulling anything over on me.".:roflmfao: Whoopsy!

We'll probably end up at Olive Garden for my birthday now. Heh.

Yeah but oy that buyers premium! And what's the deal with VAT? I'm skeered to bid without seeing things in person, too.

well, not like i've looked into this for any reason, but add 25% to the hammer price for the buyer's premium, and add 17.5% to the buyer's premium for VAT; however you can get a VAT refund if you jump through the hoops properly and christie's shipping dep't should be able to handle that. also add 1% if you pay with CC. US customs will add around 6% to the bag's value on entry into the US.

so the all-in cost should be hammer price plus 25%, plus about 6% on that total, plus cost of shipping. so taking the median of bag with an estimate of 8 - 10 GBP, it would be 9,000 GBP, or roughly $18,000 hammer price, plus $4,500 buyer's premium = $22,500 + $1,350 US duty = $23,850 for the bag, plus whatever shipping costs.
