Offensive - downright RUDE Yoogis Closet quote!!!

I know there is much discussion regarding the low resale value of Bal at the moment, but as the buyer, is this really being seen? I feel like I am seeing ridiculous high prices. Are the older, desirable leathers immune from the low resale value?

I’m selling my black Crystal Hourgass bag which retails for $6850 and is in basically brand new condition and I received an absolutely SHOCKING quote!
It was an impulse purchase and totally irresponsible so I need to sell but DANG I am not going to give it away?
I thought these bags were special and sought after. Am I wrong or does Yoogis just have NO CLUE what this bag is?
I’m waiting on a few other quotes. Thanks for letting me vent lol
Because you chose not to share the quote, we have no idea whether your allegation was well-founded or not

In terms of oldies I’d say the market’s pretty good, prices have risen sharply (unfortunately for us buyers) and if you follow the Bal threads you’ll see lots of buying of the early bags happening.

Rude is not the right word for a quote from a business that monitors a fluctuating demand-supply market. They know what the market is, and we as civilians do not have the full range of that info. You may not like a number, you may be ultra disappointed, you may be mad at yourself for overspending if resale was a possibility--but it's entirely business here and not bad intentions or practices. It's a quote, period.

Fancy Bal has a very, very limited market so I'm not surprised.
Agreed. I think this is an opportunity for reflection, if nothing else.

What were your goals/intentions when you made this purchase? What are your goals/intentions now? What I mean by this is: are you trying to recuperate a loss? Are you trying to get anything for it just to get rid of it or are you not in a rush to sell and don’t need/want the money imminently? These are two different things and no one knows why you want to sell the bag/the circumstances.

Not specific to you/this particular bag, but here are some questions to ask. What is the current market like? What is the approximate price point/range that this bag has sold for recently on various platforms? Was this a trendy bag/style that is losing steam and already had its “moment?” What is the condition of the bag and when was it purchased?

I say all of this because these are things to consider when making a purchase from here on out. I don’t make purchases with the intention to sell, partly because I share your frustration about this process/trying to sell these things on the resale market. It is way too stressful for me lool.
I prefer to buy less and be more intentional about my purchases. BUT when making a purchase/paying retail, I always check the secondhand market first to at least go into the purchase knowing what I’m about to do…if I buy a bag that doesn’t have a high resale value, OK well I love it anyway and I considered this factor but I’m still going to do it.

It is a supply/demand market and things can always happen unforeseen. No one could’ve predicted Balenciaga’s recent controversy that tanked their sales. This is surely part of it and this is the risk that we take when making luxury purchases and I always go into a purchase realizing that I might get next to nothing for it back if I ever try to sell it. This has made me much more cautious and I sit on purchases for several months now before I pull the trigger. Perhaps you could hold off trying to sell it for the time being, wait until the controversy surrounding Balenciaga blows over, and then try to sell it at a later time? I personally know people who will not buy Balenciaga right now…and I’ve seen some social media influencers say the same thing.

I wish you luck and I hope that you end up selling the bag for a price that you consider fair.

I've had similar issues the past year with my Prada offers from Yoogi's. Prada has NEVER had much resale value unless it's some type of limited sought after item like the Fairy Bags, but now the offers are seriously laughable. I bought a practically new bag last year that I really should have sent back. It's really heavy and I had serious cervical spine surgery, so it was foolish of me to keep it but I did. I only tried using it once or twice and threw in the towel. It was in the same condition as I received it, but I knew they'd lowball it. They did, I turned it down. Time goes by and I've still not used it so I sent in for a new quote and mentioned the issues above and asked if they could offer a bit better price. They offered me LESS than the first quote! :annoyed:

I've had better luck with the LVs I've sold back, but since people only want those "it" nylon Re-issues Pradas, not beautiful classics like mine, Prada's pretty worthless. The upside though is their purchase prices have been silly low as well.

Hopefully one day I can carry that particular bag again. It's SO beautiful!
I’ve decided to keep most of my classic Prada bags because the resale value is SO bad. For a couple hundred dollars, it doesn’t seem worth it to sell them.
I understand that these resale platforms are businesses and need to be making money/taking a cut but it can almost be insulting. However the silver lining is that a few bad experiences with this have made me a much more informed consumer and I don’t buy things the way I used to.

I had a local conignment store tell me they had to lower their quote on my PS bag due to wear. then they sold it. their website said nothing about wear. don't know whether they sold online or at the BNM store.
Unfortunately this is all too common. Most of these sites, even big ones like TRR don’t fully disclose (if at all) the true condition/wear of the bag. I just dealt with this. I purchased a bag by a premier designer listed in “good” condition and when it arrived the strap was literally coming off yet nothing was disclosed in the listing. Always closely inspect these bags when you receive them. They offered me to either return the bag or keep it and receive a 40 dollar credit on their website for the inconvenience…sigh

Exactly! Which is so unfortunate for someone like me who is only very recently craving these older, more understated amazing bags! I’m just a little too late to the party to get any really great deals. I find as I’m in my 50’s that I enjoy the Bal older beauties so much more than other brands that I have, specifically my LV. I look every day on the “Post your finds” thread to make sure I’m not missing something :flowers::nuts:

I appreciate everyone’s input on this. As I said in the first post- I was just really shocked at such a blatant lowball quote and needed to vent.

A little update: Fashionphile offered me $2650 which really isn’t that bad given the current circumstances I guess

To answer a few questions: as stated previously - it was an impulse buy and an irresponsible purchase. It’s sooooo beautiful and the sparkles got me ‍♀️

I did not purchase to resell. I’m selling now to downsize and be more thoughtful about my collection. If I don’t regularly use my items, I’m getting rid of them and putting the money toward more practical use: I guess I’m just getting older and wiser now lol

I’m less about collecting and more about practicality now. Cost per wear is important to me.

I knew I’d be taking a loss, I'm
Not an idiot. But less than $1000 on a bag that retails for $6850 is beyond shocking. Again, thanks for letting me vent!
