I use a Norwegian detergent called Milo. So it may not be available where you live.... Basically, it is a liquid detergent for wool and silks. Its an old brand, tried and tested by Norwegians for generations. Very little is necessary (especially as I only wash one scarf at a time). I never use softener.

Stain removal: Put "Grandma's Secret Spot Remover" (available in the UK and the USA) on stain 2 minutes before putting silk scarf in washing machine. This works excellently on normal Hermès silk twill scarves and cotton pareos. However: Do not use on dip dyed / surteint silk. I don't know why, but dip dyes are far more sensitive than other silks. Dip dyes can even stain from a drop of water (so if I by accident get rain or other water splashes on a dip dye, I immediately put the whole scarf in water!)

No colour transfer experienced, however:
Be aware that really black dye on Hermès silk scarves can give faint (like a shadow) transfer to white or cream coloured areas if you leave wet scarf crumpled or folded. So make sure you take scarf out of machine immediately wash is done and hang scarf up without folds.

As previously mentioned, I use a gentle 30 degree Celsius wash for pareos. On my Whirlpool machine this wash lasts 45 minutes and I reduce the spin dry cycle to 1000. For silks I use "Hand Wash" mode at 20 degrees Celsius, this takes 35 minutes on my machine and the spin is only 400.

If you have never tried washing a Hermès silk twill in machine before, I suggest you start with a scarf in soft colours.

I am very glad that Hermes silk scarves can be washed, I was quite nervous the first time! But they come out beautifully. I actually enjoy washing and ironing them! And because I know I can wash them, I don't need to worry about perspiration or makeup, cigarette smoke or scent. And I trust my own care more than the dry-cleaner's...

Oops, I just discovered that there is a thread named "Cleaning Scarves"! Lots of good advise there too. And other suggested detergents.

Thanks for starting this thread! I love my pareo in ombre from orange to hot pink as the first one in the series of posts on ombre yacht pareo and it's perfect for my petit frame :)

Hermes pareos are truly fabulous pieces and far underrated. I have only two, both from the Pret-a-Porter line, rather than the super large normal beach line—of which Flamingo Party is one. Both of mine are of Mythiques Phoenix . . . and after taking them to the Caribbean, I grabbed both of the scarf version because nothing says "vacation" so much as this design.

I've been looking for a big, light summer stole and haven't found anything I liked in the mousseline or light cashmere ranges, but now seeing all your lovely pictures I've ordered a navy/blue/white Zèbres de Tanzanie pareo from the H website. Hope to pick it up in store this week and will share pics if I keep it! :D

Thanks to all for starting this thread and posting pictures of the pareos. I've had my eye on the pareos for a couple of years as an alternative to silks to wear on hot Texas summer days. I feel confident now to order the yachting version in red.

Ahhhhh I forgot I dooooo have a Pareo.... BRAZIL.... need to take a pic!!!! Gosh, I have neglected my pareo for years. Time to pull her out!
The MP pareo is breathtaking!!!! FP is sooooo lovely as well!
