Ode to the Evelyne

Hi All, this is my first time writing on this type of forum so I feel clumsy and my apologies if this is not the appropriate place to ask my question let me know..
I have a handful of designer bags , a Gucci Soho Disco (love the smooshy leather) LV NF and a vintage Sologne and most recent purchase a Loewe Puzzle mini which I am obsessed with because of the quality and feel of the leather and very impressive quality of the craftsmanship as well. I hear that both leather and craftsmanship quality is next to none with Hermes but I have not been in a store yet to touch and feel...I am interested in the Evelyne, not sure if I will opt for the TPM which I find so cute and in a bright color would be such a happy bag the 29 would be bigger than what I am used to and I don’t carry much anyway BUT I know I would use the rear (or front pocket )...so big dilemma...
Question: were you just instantly hooked the moment you touched and felt the Hermes leather; I mean can I expect it to wow me just as much or more than my Loewe I know what a question hey....but wondering if I need to book a visit to the store 1 1/2 hr away or just take the plunge and buy something from Fashionphile...( the Montreal store has 0 TPM inventory and only 1 Evie 29 in black...I’m looking for a sunny “happy” color

I'm not familiar with the Loewe Puzzle bag other than in pictures, so I can't make a comparison. But I have two Evelynes and find the leather and craftsmanship excellent. They are the only bags I feel like would survive a catastrophe unscathed. So, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I purchased both my Evies preloved--one from Fashionphile and one from Yoogi's Closet. Both vendors have excellent return policies, so sending it back if you don't like it should be no problem.

If you love Loewe leather, you’ll definitely love Hermes! Gucci Disco is a great bag but both Loewe & Hermes leathers are streets ahead.
As for Evie 16 vs 29, one is quite small and the other quite big imo but both are fabulous.. I would just say that the 29 size is quite a large area of black, especially if you like a brighter colour. Good luck and have fun choosing!

Quality and price point of Evie TPM is excellent IMO. Past year it's the one I carried the most. I 'abuse' my bag and got caught under the rain a few times, still looks brand new! Mine is black but I wouldn't mind another in a pop of color!

As @Indiana said, if you love Loewe leather, you’ll love Hermes as well. The Gucci disco bag is cute and not bad quality, but you’ll find H quality to be way above it, both in the quality of the leather and also the stitching and construction.

Re size, my Evie 29s are my most used bags and I don’t find them to be large at all (I also have a GM and that one is large!). It’s a great everyday bag for carrying a wallet or card case, a small pouch, phone, tissues, etc. I love the outside pocket for easy phone access. In clemence, the bag molds to your body so it doesn’t seem that large if you don‘t carry much. Personally, I find the tpm to be just too tiny, but lots of others here love it for the times when all you need is a card case and a phone.

Fashionphile has an easy return policy so why not order one in each size and see what you think? If you can try them on, you’ll probably know right away which size is right for you.

Hermès leather and quality is beautiful and for me it’s a cut above the rest of the premium designers. I have bags from multiple labels and when I got my first Hermès I was wowed and as a long time collector of bags it takes a lot to wow me anymore.

As far as going to store or FP it’s up to you. I find FP easier to get exactly what I want when I want as I am a self admitted very impatient shopper. I’m not interested in forming relationships with SA’s as I’ve always had bad luck with them moving to other brands and my last one I had for LV retired right when I was getting comfortable with them. Im not interested in any “Hermès games” either but that’s just me. I also could careless if something is preloved as long as it’s in excellent to new condition.

Good luck and trust me you won’t regret it.

I love my new PM and I have to say I found it very lightweight and not too big for my petite frame but the tpm’s are super cute, can’t go wrong with one. I would get one but I have a Gucci disco I love at moment for when I have not too much to carry.

Evelyne PM was my first Hermès bag I ever bought and purchased it on-line when all of Europe was closed in the first lockdown. Had no idea how lucky I was to think "hey, I finally want to pull the trigger and buy a black PM, I will just go to Hermes.com" and a few minutes later, had one on the way. I had never been in an Hermès boutique, so I did not know what to expect from the bag besides what it looked like in pictures, but it did not disappoint. I promptly starting going to Hermès once the stores opened.

The PM is my most used bag. You got it right- the outside pocket is the best. I bought a TPM a few months later at an H boutique, not in my home city, just got lucky again. If you like the amount the Disco holds (big fan of the Disco!), the PM will similar. In my Disco, a compact wallet, sunglass and small umbrella all fit. The TPM can hold my phone, a calvi and my keys and not much else.

Thank you for your input. The more I reflect and read everyone’s comments I am leaning more toward the PM because the pocket is such an attraction and like you I do have my smaller Loewe or Gucci if I have very little to carry. Sounds like the PM could easily become my new workhorse!

The PM for me is a great size, I really do not find it too big at all. Really depends on what you want to use it for. I bought mine to use for when I walk my doggy and have to bring her water bottle and dish and also for mini trips and just days I need to carry more than hands free.

The Gucci disco bag really is great for small amount of item days so you do sound set there , if you do order from FP and find the PM is too big can always return it and get a TPM.

I think you should book an appointment and try the evie 29 on you to see if the size is good or not and to feel the leather too.
It will give you the chance to visit and discover the store. It’s a small store and inventory might be low but if you can talk to a SA, he/she will be able to keep you updated when they receive something that might interest you. Good luck!
