Ode to the bolide

Girls, this is killing me… is this bag a Bolide or a Row bag? I’ve seen conflicting reports.

Not opining on authenticity here but just going by vague shape and overall look I’d vote Bolide over the Row India (the only bag on The Row website that’s sort of the same). The Bolide’s handles don’t articulate, unlike the India and the LV Alma for example. So if you’re wearing them with a shoulder strap those handles will fall down to the sides of the bag; the Bolide’s handles stay straight up.

It isn't an H Bolide because the exterior of the base is a different leather than the body.

Not a Bolide, this bag has 4 feet the Bolide has 5.

To be sure, I didn’t want to point out too many details, I just thought the handles ruled out The Row bag; didn’t mean to suggest it was in fact a Hermes bag.

I was at the Barney’s liquidation sale several years ago and saw a table full of The Row handbags heavily discounted. I happened to be carrying a black bolide 1923 30cm bag that day. I put my bolide down to pick up one of the row bags and someone else picked up my bolide to look at thinking it was one of the row bags. I immediately said sorry but that’s my bag and not for sale and the lady immediately put it down and apologized. But the bags were very similar at first glance

I have RH Box, this is def brown

The fact it's a 1923 and Box is interesting. I don't think Box has been available in anything for a long time, Occasionally I've seen the odd black, and very occasionally RH, so this combo is throwing me.


I have 2 chocolate bags and one is Chocolate in Box, but I am not sure it would have contrasting stitching.

I don't think it's either.

The Row's Margaux is slouchier and has seams/gusset, same as their India, which is more a Plume knock-off

Somehow, even from a distance, this doesn't convince me it's an H Bolide either, looks like stamped croc.

Sorry @aaaaanthony, and thanks for sending more pics showing it's a 'reg' Bolide. My Bolide is the same 'reg' model and Box RH, yours is def some kind of (gorgeous) brown.

I have a brown 1923 Web in Chocolate Swift too.

It's totally beautiful whatever the colour actually is.

This could be a Gulliver Bolide. I bought one in the late 90's, brown with lighter coloured stitching, I sold it unfortunately

Scored this cutie gold Evercolour Bo25 on the website and picked her up yesterday. What a perfect size. Dainty, but more than capacious enough for every day use. I like that the shoulder strap makes it a good day bag and it's very usable for any not-super-formal evenings with the strap off. Expect that I'll be using her lots, especially on vacation!

What do we think of the twilly?😬 been using this for weeks, its more sturdy and it added some girth to the handles if you know what I mean 😄. Its been a joy using it since it does not move and slide compared to the silk twilly. Worry free!
