Ode to Kelly Sellier

There are extensive threads on the advantages/disadvantages of the main leathers for sellier which are - production: Epsom, box (rare), sombrero (fairly rare), exotics (croc, gator, ostrich) and for Mini Kelly chèvre. Here and there a larger chèvre K may sneak into production.
If we started going into pluses and minuses of those leathers our posts would be moved.

You can SO many leathers in sellier but stores seem to prefer placing orders for the more rigid leathers like chèvre and Sombrero. My Togo sellier K also took just over two years to arrive.
I would suggest deciding which leathers and size(s) you prefer, as that changes the character of the bag quite a lot :flowers: My favorite for a sellier personally is box calf.

Hello QuelleFromage,
Seeking your advice on chèvre for a sellier kelly 25 or 28. I agree box would be my favorite too :) but thats not an easy option to come across. I have a few Kellys in epsom, all sellier as I prefer the structured look. Would a K25/28 chèvre maintain it's shape? Obviously this would not be my only bag so I'm not talking about daily use, just as an occasional bag... do you have any concern?
I just received my SO in chèvre and thus far, chèvre is my absolute favorite leather. Your advice please. Thx in advance.

Hello my dear PBop!,

My chèvre SOs are still in H limbo but I do have several chèvre SLGs including Kelly wallet and have done a ton of research. From what I see, the chèvre sellier has a risk of both denting at corners and slouching a bit (just a bit) as it ages; however if it's an occasional use bag, I don't think you'd have that issue. If you look at older bags like this they vary pretty widely in condition. I thought this through a lot on my SO last fall and decided on K28 sellier chèvre anyway :) I too prefer sellier and Sombrero while amazing is too delicate for clumsy me :p
I'm also curious to see how my new Togo sellier holds up and keeps shape.
@marbella8 is really well informed on this as well.
Hope that helps! Feel free to PM! :flowers:

Hi QuelleFromage! Have you posted pics of your Togo sellier K anywhere by chance? I would absolutely love to see how it turned out! The idea of a Togo sellier really intrigues me. TIA :)

Thank you for your reply my dear. If offered another SO in my near future I would really want to try a chèvre sellier Kelly. I simply could not order a SO in anything but chèvre. It's so luxurious compared to togo, epsom and even clemence IMHO.

Do you feel a 28 or a 25 would be less inclined to dents, slouching? At first I immediately thought 25, but might it be too small to work surface areas and corners - ok maybe this is my OCD nature speaking and not logic, LOL.
Oh and I would love to see pictures of your togo Kelly in PM too :)
Thank you kindly for the discussion!

Let me see if there is a thread on chèvre aging or on chèvre sellier and if there is I'll post some photos from both myself and some tPF friends' research. What I saw in brief was that (and I think this is because chèvre is soft compared to Epsom/box/Sombrero/etc.) some bags "squished in" a little at the corners, probably from being banged into things. There were also bags that had softened a bit toward the bottom, a bit like sellier mou looks. Conversely there were older chèvre selliers that looked great and perfect.
My order's in (K28 chèvre) so I'm going to find out for myself like it or not :p
And yes, I'll PM you the Togo sellier SO photos. The bag's not with me at the moment but as soon as I can :flowers:

I look forward to your pictures of the chèvre and togo sellier. In my Birkins, the chèvre feels so rigid/structured compared to togo or at least as rigid. I often wonder why more people do not special order the chèvre for Kelly's. It's such a lovely luxurious leather. I can't wait to see yours. How long ago did you place yours? I also know that these sellier kelly's seem to take forever to arrive. I don't know if thats frustrating or makes the baggie even more special. :p:shocked: Maybe thats why there are so many fewer SO Kellys around, LOL
SO Sellier Kelly = Requires Major Patience

Yep, sellier is hard to make so not all artisans do it, which lengthens the time. My Togo sellier took 22 months and change from ordering. The chèvre sellier was placed in fall 2016 - my SA says this spring, which I think is crazy optimistic!
I now have "enough" Kellys (hahahahahaha) so will probably SO a B30 or B35 this round, but I am unsure as I really only want a black or very dark B30 to round out my H collection, and would prefer to wait for Barenia.

How about Raisin chèvre for a B30 or B35? I really wish they would add more chèvre options to the SO offerings. I selected blue hydra exterior and rose jaipur interior for mine one year ago and as far as I know no new additions since. I absolutely love mine, but not an easy combo to use daily. I almost think I would pick noir chèvre for my next (if offered) :confused1:
Topic of Barenia is a whole other subject, LOL.
