I have been reading Hermes on Purse Forum for quite some time and have been thinking of buying my first birkin. I find that the information on this website is very useful in helping me to make a decision on the choice of my first birkin.
Initially I thought of getting a neutral colour birkin as this is my first, so I have been considering colours like black, gold, etoupe. It is just not possible to get a birkin in the city I live (Hong Kong). I can make a special trip to Japan where the chances of getting a birkin is very high, but still I would not be able to get a bag with the leather, colour and hardware of my choice. At the end I decided to resort to resellers although they charge a very high premium.
Purse Forum provides useful information on resellers. The birkin I bought is from JEMZNJEWELS. There are quite a few adverse comments about this reseller, but all comments said their bags are authentic. I visited their website and found that the bags are really pretty (but expensive!!). There was one that caught my attention immediately and it is the birkin I later bought. I wrote to Rachal asking her to address these adverse comments. She is very responsive and gave me her explanation. All of these bad comments were posted some years ago. The recent comments on ebay about Rachal are good. At the end I felt comfortable dealing with Rachal and bought my first birkin from her.
I must say Rachal is very responsive. She kept me informed of all stages of my purchase, the manner of shipping, the costs, etc. My emails to her were all answered within a very short time period. Considering the amount I have to spend on the bag, I am especially cautious, but at the end of the day Rachal got a satisfied customer (but not the price!!)
Here is what I got and I would like to thank you for providing very useful information and helping to authenticate the bag.
Mine is a 35cm Chevre Quesche Birkin with brushed gold hardware. The colour is very special, more like plum than purple. The leather is Chevre Mangalore and is very soft. I don't think I will be able to get this from Japan or Paris, so going to resellers would be the route.
I am already considering a second birkin. Yes, I agree with all of you that once you are into birkin, you will be thinking of getting more.
