ODE to Box Calf

Hi!
How do you store your box Kellys? Standing up or lying down on its back? I bought my first Hermes bag (a vintage BBK retourne 32) last month and it is so beautiful and in such great condition. Want to preserve it that way.

My Box K sleeps in her sleeper sac, resting on her back with a SOS Save Our Shape Purse Pillow Shaper inside to keep creasing away. I get them on Etsy from a shop called nosacrificebags.

My lovely vintage Fonsbelle shoulder bag in black box leather. Does anyone know if Hermes would treat this bag in their spa even if it's a vintage and discontinued design?

As long as it is Hermes and has not been worked on by another craftsman, they will be thrilled to do so- they always LOVE a vintage bag!.

Hi ladies (and gents),

I’ve been admiring your box beauties and want to get one for myself too. I’m eyeing some vintage box K28 and I prefer sellier for its structured look but haven’t found any in excellent condition at reasonable price in my area (European Union - so I won’t have to pay customs, if you see any please let me know).

I did find some retourne ones though but all of them are from the 70s-80s so I’m afraid they’ll get slouchy (they still look in pretty good shape on photos but the prob is I can’t see them irl before purchase).

I’d love to know from your insight, does retourne box Kelly get slouchy easily?

P/S: I attach here some photos of the bag that I mentioned above. Do you think she’s in good shape? The pics are not very clear I think but the owner doesn’t have others.

No it doesn’t. Box itself is a pretty stiff leather and my BKK never slouched over 12 years. It was a 32 as well, and now gone to a good friend. Unless you really bash it around, a Retourne tends to keep its shape almost as well as a Sellier BBK. Are you open to new at retail? There are some going around, BKK 28 Sellier GHW. I know bec I was shown. Best of luck!

Unless you really bash it around, a Retourne tends to keep its shape almost as well as a Sellier BBK. Are you open to new at retail? There are some going around, BKK 28 Sellier GHW. New at retail would be the best and ideal choice but I haven’t bought enough at Hermès to be offered a quota bag instore, and I’m kind of impatient so would want to go the preloved route and get a bag first before I can build my purchase profile =)

Since you are located in Europe I would just gently mention to your SA that you would love a Box Kelly Sellier. Sometimes it’s not the spend that matters, it’s the person who appreciates this special leather and there are not that many of us. Don’t be too worried as not all stores are that concerned with “qualifying for a quota bag”. The main thing I believe is to be considered for this precious item. Bon courage!
