Congrats! Love barenia/toile! And a pristine Omnibus! Lucky!

I'm a newbie too. I've been stalking this clubhouse for a while. Personally, I would jump at the glycerine treatment right away if I ever get my paws on a Barenia B (my holiest of Holy Grail bags, lol). Seeing Barenia age gracefully and patina over time is one thing but actually owning it? In an ideal world, I'd be as carefree with my bags as I want to be. But with the amount of time and money spent on finding B's and K's, especially on a harder to find leather like Barenia, I'd be more paranoid about damaging her in the ugly duckling phase. Having said that, by the time I actually manage to get one, my mindset might have changed and I no longer mind having to go through the ugly duckling phase together.

I think you don't have to do the treatment. Because it's a toile combination, it's not as much Barenia involved. This is one instance where I wouldn't mind Barenia going through patina naturally. It would complement the casual nature of the toile perfectly.

Here's my current Barenia obsession. From the Socialites thread:

It should scare me, how dirty the leather looks, but I'm more inspired than ever. :hbeat:

What a photo, makes the Roulis look so fab too, but the leather on the GP, wow! It is almost in a braided pattern on the GP, love it, with her red nail polish. Who is this socialite?

Dear OneMoreDay! What a lovely post!!! :hbeat: Thank you so much! Yes, I will take care that my beautiful bag and me will have a story together... Especially as this is not a "pre-loved" bag - there was no love in the life of this bag yet. The former owner got her as a present, did not like and never used her... This is sad. So, I WILL use her!! :smile1:

Sammy, oh my, congrats on this stunning Barenia bag! I have never seen this combination! Please share the size? Was it made in pm size as well? You know how much I adore plumes. Amazing find and enjoy carrying this beauty!

This is a great photo. Is the Roulis Barenia too? It looks like a different leather and colot?

I think the beauty of Hermes pieces is that there is some sort of special relationship that forms between owner and bag. Hermes is a weird, frustrating, and exhilarating game of time, chance, sufficient funds, and personal tastes, so it might make someone more emotionally invested than normal. There isn't strictly a right or wrong way of doing things because at the end of the day, it's just a bag but it's also your bag. I have yet to see barenia that hasn't aged well (glycerin or Docride treatment or not). They are all such beautiful pieces and each has a story to tell. I'm sure yours will be a fine companion to tell your story as time passes.

Whichever comes out on top, head or heart (or a balance of both), I hope you enjoy and wear her in good health. :hugs:
I love the way you stated this. This is why H captures my heart with their products and fine craftsmanship. No other brand quite does it for me in the same way. But then there is that crazy frustrating part too lol.

Eloquently put and so true.

Sammy Royal Huge Congratulations, your new bag is so so beautiful : really elegant and very very classy .
It's so heartening to hear how much you love it and will treasure it .
I'm of the school that needs to have a real relationship with my bags and silks , I 'm not into numbers at all so when I read posts like Sammy's , I always feel that this is what Hermès is all about . Special things that will be valued.
One more Day Yes, your post says it all .And you write so well I want to hear more !
Forever in Pink I thought Plume too , that's a bag I long to own although a Barenia Plume is never likely to surface here in UK …..

I think I need to get dressed and take a few photos of my new Barenia ...

Come on frou frou!! Get out of bed!! I am sooo sorry about gavroche--but you know what this means.....looking for another...... :graucho:

And just my two cents on any product to barenia:::: I am NO EXPERT but I do own several pieces and would NEVER put products on them. I have seen a bag that was "coated" by a professional and the bag absolutely did not have the barenia charm. Was horrifying really. Leave barenia alone my friends. If you want to "protect" it, the leather is not for you!!

Can't tell from the photo. It shows either orangey or a medium tan like hex. :thinkin: Sometimes these pictures are filtered or edited. It could be a variety of leathers (Fjord, Clemence, Evercolor, Sombrero, etc). Maybe even Veau Butler (there was one up on Yoogi's before).

Apparently, it's related to Barenia but more susceptible to scratches. Not much information on it, sadly. But you could check out the Roulis clubhouse and see what the members think. :flower: Link here: http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes-clubhouse/ode-to-the-roulis-701004-17.html

This is beautifully stated. Although I have to admit, my brain kept reading "insufficient funds!" :roflmfao:

I have finally taken pics of my little Barenia family: Birkin 35 pall H/W and HAC 32 gold H/W, Collier de Chien and Kelly Dog.

These are stunning. Makes me want a barenia CDC too! Thanks for sharing.

Good advice! I have to say, with the possible exception of Box, I feel that is true of most H leathers. They were built to last and don't need a lot of help!

Wow. Just wow. This photo is mouthwatering! Congrats on your barenia family -- it's very impressive!

I'm under the impression that the glycerine treatment done by Hermes tightens the pores of the leather and speeds up the patina process so you end up with a more even patina. Barenia is beautiful in all guises, helped or not. This entire clubhouse is filled with examples.

The material is meant to reflect it's owner, whether classic Box, or casual Clemence, or breathtaking Barenia. Some people don't mind beating up their bags beyond recognition, which could be charming for most but horrify plenty others. Everyone is different. Personally, I like my things to stay pristine for as long as possible. But life, inevitably, grounds my expectations and eventually, I learn to let these things go. Am I crazy for wanting Barenia (and Box) despite my fears and paranoia? Probably. But, crazier things have been done in the name of love.

And the reason I love Barenia is that it's one of the few leathers that respond and react in a way that makes it a living entity in its own right. It's unbelievably beautiful. Even if it is aged and battered, there's this unmistakable glow about it.

It really doesn't matter what one does or doesn't do, so long as it remains their own. If treatment was done to spare heartache against spills during the ugly duckling phase (or in the case of Box calf, to prevent water blisters), then that's their choice to make. Rather than me remaining fearful something will happen to the bag and leaving it in the closet to never see the light of day, I can take my own precautions and wear her proudly by my side. Nothing wrong with giving the material Tender, Loving Care if one desires. :flower:
