Treating the leather with glycerin saddle soap (and sometimes other leather conditioning products),which accelerates the darkening of the hide.

I plan to have this bag for the rest of my life, so I'm going to let it age naturally and just enjoy all the phases of patina development. The first few trips out and about were somewhat nerve wracking, but I've since gotten over that and have made a promise to myself to not let it languish in my closet.

I love smooth Barenia so much - I am just not sure which bag should be on my "long term" (ie, very hard to get) wishlist. I would like it to be a kind of tote shape, but I don't have much hope of actually getting a Birkin in this leather. The reseller market is crazy expensive, and I am not enough of a VIP to hope for a push offer. Any good suggestions from my sympathetic TPF friends?

I would recommend a barenia Halzan.

I second that!! Much easier to find, less of a price point, and you can see if you really adore it, while continuing to look at the resale sites. Excellent plan, annie9999!

Love my BF Halzan 31 and would not hesitate to grab a smooth version if the opportunity arose.
It's a fantastic design, works great for travel, and combined with Barenia/BF tolerance for rain and patina it's a killer combo.

Doesn't take a VIP to get Barenia; just let them know how much you love it If you're open to a 35 you can easily find at resale for much less than retail.
