Obsessing over the condition of your bag! A long confession

i'm a complete freak about scratches on my bags . . . i JUST exchanged a brand new soho leather small flap in pear that i had bought during PCE b/c it had a few nicks in the back and a scratch on the buckle. <-- i guess the SAs thought i was kinda crazy/obsessive, but those little imperfections were really bothering me.

A little bit of (kind of gross) information for those with leather bags or the leather trim. If you get a scratch in it or something that kind of changes the color of the leather (not gouges it, but just scuffs it) and it really bothers you, rub the crease of your nose and get some oil, or behind your ear and then rub it on the spot on the bag...it'll take care of it

Gross, but these are the things you learn when your dad makes leather goods all your life and you grow up with super expensive one of a kind products just laying on the counter....

Leather is just another animals skin and so the oil is good for it..just thought i'd share

Oh and I tend to abuse my bags, but not so much my coach one. My dooney and bourke has spots on it, scratches, pen marks...because i realized it's a purse and i'm going to enjoy it..then there will come a time when I don't want to carry it anymore and I won't regret the use I put into it...

Lolitastar:

I purchased my black pleated hobo a month ago. I don't think it is out of style at all. It is a timeless classic that will always look good. It is a bag that is out of character for Coach to have made so for this reason I love it all the more although I have only worn it once. Enjoy carrying your bag.

kind regards,
Liz

Liz!! That is so sweet of you! I guess I felt that way because I haven't purchased one from the newest catalog. Well, I did but returned it. The stripe reversible tote...it was not me, at all. Ths pleated hobo, I have been carrying for a week, now and it's got my style all over it. Thank you for the kind words!!!!:p

Guess I'm not alone. I have about a mile to walk from the train to my office... I try to hold my bag so no one can bump into it... but when they do, I panic. I immediately gasp and look for scratches. Argh.

I feel the similar to many posters here, which is why I thought of this thread. I think it's good to be cautious and pamper our bags, but sometime worrying about the condition takes away the joy of these special items. So I'm trying to get a more balanced attitude. I'm going to take care and be careful, but not freak out over ever little thing like scratches, a little dirt...some marks (gasp!).

Remember these things add character......

Imagine my co-worker who bought a white bag, took it on a trip to have BBQ sauce spilled on it...she was miffed, but cleaned it best she could and moved on.
