Hi hermesmonkey, wow, must've been a terrible experience last year! Do you have a thread about that incident? (i.e. the technological disaster etc.)

Calicocat, there was no thread...just that the cash registers/computers DID NOT WORK, so the cashiers were actually on their PERSONAL cell phones calling visa and amex, adding with manual calculators, etc. The wait in line just to pay was over 2hrs in heat as well!! People were trying to cut the line and I even witnessed a "verbal fight" just in front of me! From what I understand, they did not use regular SAs at the sale which they normally do....so I think that may have added to a lot of the confusion. It's not like it's the first time they have ever had the sale! Additionally, I overheard a few women say "I rarely buy anything from H, I have no idea how I got an invite to the private sale." Trust me, I don't complain often when it comes to H, but they got an earfull from me...in the most polite way of course!! I know, it's a sale, but this is no Barneys warehouse sale. It's still H and there was NO H-ness anywhere that day. Like I said, they will make improvements, but I'm still debating whether to even attend. I know, did I just say that?? :wtf:

Yikes! So much for 'private' sale :wtf: But wow, no one would blame you hermesmonkey, for giving them an earfull - wow, what a disaster of a sale! Can't believe such happened at H - of all places :push:

Riverside Square Mall NJ : this Thursday

NYC sale: Private sale Tuesday March 24 and will open to the public on March 25

you probably would have posted the nyc address if you knew it, but do you know when we'll know the nyc address or know where i can find it?

i wish i didn't have work thursday =(

I was told the date today and my pea brain forgot the date! I will find out tomorrow. Now, for those of you who went to the last one in the fall and experienced the horrible disaster of a sale that I did, I was RE-assured today that H has taken steps to make this private sale more pleasurable. There will be fewer invitations for the private sale thank goodness. It was anything BUT a private sale last fall. They are also trying to make sure the technological disaster with the cashiers will not happen again. H has heard our cries and they are certainly trying to do something about it. I rarely complain, but man, did they get some words from me and a ton of other people.

I was also at the private sale during the chaos----the check out lines were INSANE!!! And, it was quite hot in there, for awhile I thought I was going to pass out! We were in line to check out for HOURS!

It was still fun for me, but I'm not sure I'd do it again.

are any leather goods normally placed on sale?

At the sale in the Metropolitan Pavilion, there is always a table of small leather accessories and belts. It's very hit or miss and often the goods are in poor condition. Prices are still quite high for some pretty severely damaged goods. Again, you may be able to find a very good condition piece, but in my years of going to this thing, the percentage of leather accessories that I purchase there is very slim. I often find shoes, clothing, and DEFINITELY scarves and ties. Those items are usually in excellent condition.

I went to the Private sale a few years ago - before the Metro Pavillion location - and while I did find one of my favorite pairs of pants, I won't go again. It was much too chaotic. Sounds like it hasn't changed much. I would have thought the private sale would be more civilized/organized. Oh well...
