I think she has the hair and skin type that wouldn't necessarily look good with grey or silver. She's got quite a fragile hair type and she's in a business where she can't let her hair grow out naturally... well she can but the pressures are immense and certain roles require certain looks.

I started getting grey hair very young, at 16 I had a small but visible grey streak... on the one hand it's really cool to have significantly grey hair before you're 40 on the other hand I can't just dye my hair any colour I like because regrowth is tricky and for the grey to look good you have to commit to it 100%.

It's the in-between phases where you're not grey enough that's harder to maintain. Naturally dark hair with silver highlights done properly looks good... with blonde or lighter hair the grey is so close in tone that silver highlights doesn't improve much and if you have fragile hair like Nicole dyeing it a shade closer to silver/grey is tricky.

Grey/silver hair also looks good if it's kept sleek... dry, frizzy, curly grey hair looks like a bird's nest.

I have pale skin like Nicole and I feel grey hair would just make me look old and washed out. I think women with more pigmented skin can do it better.
Not sure why you say she has fragile hair. Her natural hair was very curly. Mine is curly, though not as tight curls as hers and I wouldn't categorize mine as fragile. It's thick, somewhat coarse and tends to be dry. Hers might be fragile now after all the straightening and bleaching.

I've been watching Top of the Lake: China Girl where Nicole has a supporting role. She wears a black/gray wig, and it does nothing for her. Her acting is great, I just never realized how the red hair suits her til now.

Agree -- her natural hair from back in the day was huge, thick and gorgeous!

My stylist used to work on her hair when she was in Toronto for premiers (he doesn't like taking the day off anymore to follow a celeb around) and said she wasn't happy until she made everyone cry.

She doesn't go anywhere without a trunk full of wigs. She really tries to let the wigs take the brunt of damage and preserve her hair.

Yes, it appears so. Even in HBO's Big Little Lies, she wore a wig although it was awful with silly bangs to hide the fact that it wasn't a lacefront and cheap.

That wig so so distracting to my eyes because her real hair was similar, so I kept thinking, just wear your real hair! The other actresses wore their real hair.

Apparently she isn't sweet at all and anyone who works for her gets the brunt of it.

Maybe she's sweet to the higher ups who can give her a job.
unfortunate.....I think the way a person treats the people who work for them says so much.....I'll always remember Davie Bowie remembered his childhood nanny and his long-time assistant in his will

now I'll always remember Nicole is mean to staff

When I worked with her she was cool. Not everybodies hair can withstand the demands of production. When I work on a different movie my hair was wrecked for a year after 2 months of shooting. Most ladies do their hair once a day actresses have their hair cranked on no less than 10x a day. Her wigs are not cheap they are made by a production wig maker which is a hair union position. They did photograph a bit shiny, defiantly could have used some sea salt spray.
