I actually think the Rogue is a fantastic bag hampered by its brand name. Were this bag a different brand, say Chloe or something else, its success would have been much much bigger.

To say that Coach is somewhat seen as exclusive is a subjective statement at best. I think Loewe or Lanvin as exclusive brands. Certainly not Coach where there is a retailer that carries them in every corner.

Business wise, I think its a mistake to leave the Rogue out of those promotions. People expect sales when they see the name Coach. Which is why several people here have said they will wait for dept. store sales to buy their bags, as opposed to doing so straight from Coach, eliminating the middle man which is what Coach ultimately wants.

As for the Rogue, they only had certain high end department stores carry that line. I don't remember ever seeing the Rogue on sale or included in their department sale events-maybe in the sale events where you received loyalty points and/or money back but not any type of direct discount (I could be wrong though).

Will it work for them? Who knows! Time will tell but I can say that I would still buy the Rogue even without a discount if that's what I really wanted.

We agree, Coach is definitely a bridge brand, but it's still an affordable luxury in the US. It's the top of the brands you'll find in Macy's. It's affordable luxe for people who shop at Macy's and Nordstroms.

The top of the Coach line is exclusive - they are expensive and well made handbags. You don't see Ralph Lauren Purple label at every corner or Donna Karen. But you do see Polo and DKNY at every corner and on sale. To take this one step further, it's the cache of Ralph Lauren Purple label that sells Polo and Ralph Lauren black label. Ralph Lauren makes a ton more money from Polo than Purple Label. But, the Purple Label drives the brand.

I suspect that is what Coach tries to do and I bet what is what they are trying to achieve with these changes. Clearly Coach has work to do to segment their brand with consumers, but clearly that is something they are trying to do more.

Coach is trying to figure this all out and I wish them luck.

By the way, I actually don't agree with you that the Rogue would sell better if it was not Coach. I bet Coach will sell a lot more Rogues than much more expensive "it" bags - they are at a price point that people can't afford and a brand name people know. I just don't think the market size is that large for Luxury handbags above a certain point.

He noted during the company's earnings conference call Tuesday morning that Stuart Vevers's new Coach 1941 line was resonating in both Coach's retail stores and in "top specialty stores," and that shoppers were increasingly purchasing the brand's more expensive items (over $400) and less interested in its more accessible (under $300) options. For a company that wants to be seen more as a luxury brand, that's very good news.

With its cool, fashion-y product in place and customers seemingly willing to embrace higher prices, Coach is now turning its attention to rejiggering its retail strategy. That will include rolling out its more expensive 1941 bag line to all stores, moving from 12 to eight deliveries per year in order to keep successful styles on the floor longer and "better align with the fashion calendar," and restructuring the wholesale business.

Not unlike some of its competitors, Coach now plans to reduce its presence in overly promotional department stores, too. Luis says it will reduce its department store door count by 25 percent and reduce "markdown allowances," as department store markdowns have negatively impacted overall brand health and confused consumers. Instead, Coach will focus on increasing its presence in "modern luxury doors," or "stores we view as a retail and marketing investment." Luis spoke to this at the Financial Times Luxury Summit earlier this year, saying: "Irrespective of what we hear about the demise of the department store, it's true that consumers do go to specialty stores and department stores to be educated on brands and so it's very important for us to continue to partner — yes, in a selective way — with those players."

I think those of us who went through the Borough bag craze, where Coach made them really exclusive when they were first released and then, they started turning up at department stores and outlets are probably concerned that it could be a similar pattern with the Rogues. When the Borough bag was released, Coach said they would never go on sale and didn't include them in promotions and all of a sudden, they were all appearing at the outlets within about 8 months after their release. About 3 months after they were released, they were showing up at department stores like Lord and Taylor and Macys and were included in their promotions.

Well, I hope the rogues will show up at the Outlets sooner or later. And like the Phoebe in two or three years it might be an outlet bag. But Coach will come up with some other amazing bag we all want.

While Coach is a high end Luxury brand in Asia, it's hard for me to believe that Coach can really attain that over a reasonable period of time here. They are a publicly traded company and have quarterly numbers to make. They can't take a super long term view.

And I have no idea about the high end luxe handbag business, but how many super pricey high end bags can you actually sell?

And you walk into an outlet and see the volume of people buying and then a retail store and there is just no comparison. I know the Coach store on Post Street in San Francisco is one of their highest volume stores and I've never seen them packed and registers ringing. You go to an outlet in a high volume mall and there are long lines.

I do think Stewart has more skin in the game than Reed. It will be interesting to watch and as long as they keep making pretty bags in my price range, I'm happy. :)

I don't even think Coach is considered a high end luxury brand in Asia; it's just with the economic boom, mostly with China, many are aspiring to the label. Otherwise, not so much.
