I have a bias against line-sitters. I got to a sale one year (the invitation day) really early as was like 15th in line. Just before opening time, a group of about 10 women came and took the place of the guy line sitter in front of me. It was infuriating not to get in with the first group.

That is beyond rude. I happen to hire line sitters all the time but its always one for one.

The last bottega sale my mother and husband wanted to go with me and so I hired 3 line sitters.

One for one - so that the ppl behind me in line are not effected in any way. That is the only fair way to hire line sitters.

It was like this the whole time I was there as well. I felt rushed in the bangle section but because I felt like I'd faint I didn't fight it. [emoji17]
It was complete mayhem when I got to the counter as well. It helped that I knew what colors I wanted, the SA grabbed the colors I wanted and we played with combos, I ooo'ed and ahh'ed, decided and bounced. I HAD to get away from those women. I must say most shoppers at the counters had no idea what they were looking at, which held up everyone else behind them. Why would it take you so long to decide on a bracelet? You either like the pattern or you don't.

Yes this little old lady kept pushing me. She was a really jerk about it. When I started blocking her pushing me she accused me of pushing her! I had to explain to her that it makes no sense that I'd be pushing her as I was already at the front of the counter patiently waiting to be served. She was like a little bull![emoji35]. It was constant crap like that which had me winded and faint by the time I got served. Next time I too will be better prepared. [emoji6]

The etiquette of this is well established by now and that wouldn't have been allowed—by either other people in line or the management of the SH sale.

That happened to me once. A guy was in line in front of me and turned out he'd been holding the place for a group of women. I was not happy.

Unfortunately there's no shortage of entitled rude people who attend these events. It shouldn't be allowed. Shakespeare in the Park is free but if you cut the line or use someone to hold your space they kick you out! [emoji6]It isn't fair t those who've been waiting. 1 for 1 I can see but 1 for a whole group should not be allowed! [emoji35]

I thought ticketing system would help the line management when I was in line, but when I was given the "line-holder" business card, I started to wonder if that would work. I can totally see some "professionals" taking a lot of tickets and selling them..

They've got to stamp numbers on the palms (you know like in night clubs:graucho:)?
The biggest problem is to get people out in reasonable time, and I thought it was good the rule that if you dont proceed to check out within one hour, your things are returned! Although I would struggle myself to make it that fast :smile1:

That would have royally ticked me off, Luli. If one person was holding a spot for one person, that I could understand, but 10??? Oh hell, NO!

The line sitters aren't responsible if someone decides to bring 10 friends with them. They are holding one spot and once they hand over the spot to the client s/he can do what they want. However, bringing in 10 people is beyond rude.

I might hire them for a sale next month. I am able to arrive early, but I don't think I want to stand in the cold for hours.

This is just terrible. I would have complaint to the staff.. 1:1 may be acceptable .. 1:10? Absolutely not ! And very very rude!

hopiko, may I ask what is the design of the moussie on the far right of your picture--the ochre/mustardy color? Love that shade (and may try to find it at retail price!; I couldn't stomach the crowd scene this year). Thanks in advance for the info.
I add my congrats to those who endured and succeeded and my condolences to those who endured but were turned away. As far as I know, this is the first time such craziness has occurred at the Hermes sale, and I hope next time/next year Hermes and/or Soiffer Haskin changes their processes and policies to avoid this nonsense.

Hi Mindy, it is a stole, and from the tag, I think it is "Polo" from May 2012. It is gold with a blue changeant effect. Here is the tag for your reference:
