I am probably just being super cautious. You are right, of course it's for a phone. The leather is quite thick and I think it will hold it's shape.

I could get the older model, the one without the back pocket and the price is USD 200-300 cheaper
Is it worth to pay a little more for the back pocket?
I mean, both Lou Camera Bag styles, old ones and pocket ones, are currently going for the same price of $1690 plus tax. So getting the pocket isn't technically costing more than the current price of the bag.
But the older ones will run out eventually, of course, so those who want the pocket-less version have to purchase these rather quickly or search the pre-loved market, because all the new ones will come with a pocket (at least, that is what I've gathered so far).
For me, the pocket really makes this bag interesting again. I had gotten somewhat bored of it, to be honest. But that pocket isn't a big deal either. It's just a place to have easy access to our phones (or whatever is needed quickly). But these bags are so spacious that you can put your phone or whatever else inside and still have so much room left.
Oh, I would be cautious too. Believe me. These bags are too expensive to fool around with.
I baby most of my bags so I will be careful too. Most phones will probably fit fine without damaging the leather, but there are other phones that may be way too big or have thicker cases or pop sockets that may stretch it out too much, so you are actually right in being careful.
I bought this bag in December after thinking about it for a solid year! I love it and have used it every day.

Hi Everyone! So, I went to my YSL boutique and played around with the Lou camera bag with the back pocket. I can confirm that the back pocket easily fits a phone. However, I noticed that putting a phone there (with its phone case on) ended up making the main compartment feel a bit tighter. Hopefully the leather will soften up with time, and this won't be the case forever. Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like they also changed the material of the interior lining slightly, and it doesn't feel quite as nice. This new version is a handy update for sure, but it isn't quite the game changer I was hoping for! Caveat--I've gotten extremely picky with bags over the years and am no longer willing to buy a luxury bag unless it's nearly perfect. I didn't end up purchasing the bag. I imagine this new version will be loved by most, just wanted to give my 2 cents.

I already placed the order for mine in Taupe on NW site. It is on backorder so I'm going to have to wait a bit.
What draws me to the pocket is that I'm constantly taking my phone inside and out, and I notice with my other bags, that it can become a hassle, because once I take it out, all the stuff inside moves around and then there's no space to quickly put it back in.
So I end up carrying my phone in my hand or in my jeans (back pocket) and that is not ideal either. That is why I carry a purse in the first place.
I know the external pocket will end up taking inside space, but I don't mind it because the Lou is a very spacious bag to me. I don't carry much so my stuff is usually swimming inside it, anyway. But I do like having the extra space. I find that with my Toy Loulou and my Mini Lou I struggle, so I love how easy it is to carry the Lou, since I don't have to play Tetris or negotiate to fit my essentials.
To my surprise, my new Lou with pocket arrived today. It turns out they did have one left, and I can tell because it arrived like most of the bags I’ve ordered from NM lately: with a few marks (nothing major) and an overall feeling of “this was probably a return.”
But this was a blessing in disguise because when I called to complain they offered me 20% discount to keep the bag and of course, I took it. The bag is sold out now so I can’t exchange it either. Plus, knowing I got this brand new style “on sale” makes me like the bag even more.
I have to say, I really like the pocket so far. It is not tight at all and fits my iPhone 11 perfectly with room to spare. The capacity inside the bag is enough for all of my essentials and then some. I’ll post photos tomorrow to better show the beautiful taupe.
All in all, I’m very happy with the bag for now. Will share more feedback after I wear it for a bit, but I think this will be my everyday bag starting tomorrow! I’m so glad I went for it.

As promised. Here is my awesome Lou Camera bag with outside pocket in the color taupe.
The phone fits perfectly and does not stretch out the bag too much at all.
The inside capacity is still great. I can fit all of that (the case represents the phone) and so much more. I’d say it’s only about 1/2 to 3/4 full. It’s so much easier to maneuver when the phone is in the pocket, so we don’t have to be moving things around every time we put the phone back in.
I always just store the tassel because I only use it occasionally. Not for daily use.

The bag weights roughly 10 ounces and the strap measures half an inch. It is very comfortable to wear, considering its size and how much it fits inside.
Not to be an enabler but this bag is quite perfect and will probably become one of my most used bags.
Does anyone know what color light brown is on a YSL item? I ordered dark beige thru the YSL store and notice the ticket on bag says light brown. Is that the same color?
YSL colors are called so many different names that is it easier to go by the color code.
Dark Beige is 2721.
I think the light brown might be Dark Natural which is that pretty cognac caramel color but it may also be the taupe.
However, if it came directly from YSL store, it is unlikely that they would send you anything other than the Dark Beige you ordered.
