Hi Everyone,
I heard from a very good source, off the record, that H will be opening a corporate owned store in the new City Center here in DC. Also, Tiffanys, Burberrys, and the largest Apple store in the US will be going in there also. Along with law firms, condos, and upscale apts in the former DC convention center site.
Anyone have any further info on this new H store and will the one in VA be closing then?
Thanks for any further update.

Wow! That is some news! I shop at the Tyson corner location and did not hear anything about it closing, do you know when would this be happening?? I assume then that the small hermes section inside NM at Chevy chase would then close as well?

Oh no, this isn't good news for me. I love the Vienna (VA) store because I can drive there so if that store closes and is replaced by a DC store I won't be going as often because I don't drive in the city (it's better for everyone that way) and I hate taking the metro. I'm actually going there tomorrow to pick up my repaired bracelet, do you think they would talk about this if I asked or is it hush hush? Will definitely be keeping an eye out for news about this, thanks for the heads up.

I don't know the market will bear from a business perspective. But, I would imagine that the city center would attract tourists and be a franchise store perhaps. Don't ask why.

The city center would be on the yellow/green metro subway line and not to far from the red line at metro center. I can see the NM run small store remaining open as it is a few blocks away from Chevy Chase Maryland. The Friendship Height/Chevy Chase area has worked hard at becoming a exclusive area for the more upscale shopper similar to Tysons Galleria/Corner.

I hope that the DC area is able to have all three potentially. This would really be beneficial to business people, urbanites, and conventioners. I know many suburbanites do not like going into the city so some would be unhappy if Tyson did close (particualry since the Silver metro line will be opeing next year 2014). If this was to occur I would have to strategize about time of day commuting on the metro or use possible complimentary courier service if I was to shop downtown.

I think its great that they are continuing to develop that area. Although there is absolutely no parking that there used to be in the 80 and 90s since the Verizon center and condo being developed in the 7 and H street corridor. Just my two cents.

I think this is good news.

DH’s office is right across the street. That would make his gift buying for me much easier.

I believe that the area can support both Hermes locations.

The Vienna store has easy car access and free parking from I-495/I-95. It’s clientele draws from Richmond, WV and Baltimore. Parking at the DC location will be difficult and expensive at best. Who wants to pay $25 to park and shop. That’s the reality of parking in DC.

The opening of the Metro Silver Line this Fall continues to fuel growth in Tysons at an amazing rate. In fact, the Washington Post reported that Wegmans is coming to Tysons (right next to my office). That will make lunch much easier.

If the new downtown store becomes a reality, the Chevy Chase Neiman’s boutique makes less sense. But that’s a decision for them to make.

I would love three boutiques within reach!!!

If you read my post again, you will see that I never said that the Hermes Fairfax Square was closing! Please read my post again as this is how rumors get started.
I love the Fairfax Square store and have been shopping there since it opened from the first Director John to the current one, Steve.
I was told this information off the record by an Executive with a store that is opening up in DC's City Center and the H store would be a corporate store, not a partner store.
Who know what will happen with the eocnomy here in DC, it may never come to fruition.
In any case, it would be great to have 3 H stores in the DC area, the more the better for people to shop in!

I am being hopeful that there will be" three in the DMV". I hope the possibility comes into fruition.

This is exciting news! I would love to have three stores in the area.

The stores in the Tyson's Corner malls get a significant amount of business from overseas clients due to the proximity to Dulles airport. They fly in (often on a private flight and accompanying a spouse who is on a work-related trip), shop and then leave. I don't see that kind of business transferring easily to downtown DC for a variety of reasons.

CityCenterDC is readying retail lineup
Jonathan O'Connell
CityCenterDC is humming.

People have begun moving into the apartments, the condos are selling, a few shops are open and 10th Street NW, after 35 years, has reopened.

The project's developer is also readying to unveil a retail lineup that, according to a source familiar with the negotiations, will likely include Dior, Hermès, Longchamp, Paul Stuart, Salvatore Ferragamo and Zadig & Voltaire. Tumi and Allen Edmonds have both already opened their stores, and Burberry, Hugo Boss and Kate Spade have announced plans to follow. The source would only comment anonymously because details are being finalized.

Hi Kitty - it is downtown DC at 11th and H Street NW. Its the site of the former Convention Center, I think closest to the Metro Center stop. Its a beautiful development w retail, condos, commercial space, etc - and a nice big underground parking structure.

And to clarify, there have been no official announcements re H as far as I know but the news reports sound promising.

Thanks! I go to DC a lot. I hope it's true! 😊

The Tyson's area is shopping central for so many people that I would think the Vienna store will remain. It has better access than the larger malls, IMO. That area is shopping on steroids.
