TBH a lot of this stuff really looks like Consuelo era Marni- big difference is she used real fur. A splash of Gucci too.

I mean they don’t have to be wearing bowler hats but IDK this doesn’t have much of a British vibe much more so Italian somehow. It’s a difficult one as I think Burberry is a really difficult one to nail as the only thing you’ve got set in stone is the trench coat.

I think the check/tartan/plaid is worked in, I see quite a bit of British subcultural street style in a high-fashion way. Posh-punk or eccentric-rock-star-made-lord-of-the-mannor. Burberry Prorsum (fashion show collection) was always a bit removed from the classic trench, even if it was variations-thereof.

From gossip, I think they binned all RT's ideas. This is fast turnaround but a point to the future, not a leftover selection.

I was getting strong libertines era Kate moss and Pete Doherty tortured romance from the ads but I’m not seeing it so much in the collection (which is a good thing as that was a yikes time) this is much more put together.

I do see a lot of Consuelo’s Marni but of course she’s a brilliant designer who sold well so that’s no bad thing for the brand.

Also agree a commitment to sustainable/ethical real fur like sheepskin and nutria would be far preferable to yet more plastic fibres.

Ah OK. I always think of unwashed skinny-skinnies with heels (women) white(ish) 'wife-beaters' and pork pie hats (men) with the Libertines (& Baby Shambles - my friend was their drummer).

I need to look at old pics of that Hoxton Square/Whitechapel era (I lived in Clerkenwell at that time). I remember everything shrunken including jackets - a '00s take on the German film Chistiane F. Maybe I misremember though.

If you think where Burbery's HQ used to be - Chatham Pl E9 (not Horseferry Rd SW1) that would make sense.

I'm seeing more early Vivienne Westwood (early-80s Mud era).

Some of the shoes on the runway are bonkers. Even more bonkers than we're used to.

I already have the HUGE ushanka/trapper-hats (mine in dyed-green beaver). I like to start the year ahead - a year ahead!

They totally chucked all of RT's ideas! But I think that's the way to do it honestly. :P

My actual name starts with a B, so if I wore this, I'd feel really silly. Like I would need to wear a cape also as it's giving me super hero vibes in a big way. Maybe scrape off the "Burberry" at the bottom and just put my own name in there with some matching colored puff fabric paint, throw on a gold cape and abandon all dignity as I head to do my shopping. :P:lol:

I really like your synopsis. Am a huge fan of British subculture street style and agree with you here.

Someone mentioned the Libertines and post-Britpop era earlier here (sorry for not tagging saves scrollback) and I actually loved the style of that era, it was a real turning point in '00s fashion as well.

Loving all the references here and the breath of fresh air post-"TB" lol
