need your honest opinion - sidestones too large on my E-ring?

I think your ring is stunning and I love it as is-

I think if you went smaller you wouldn't have the same amount of 'finger fill' as you do now and it would look more like a tapered baguette instead of a pear. I never saw a marquis look from your pictures.

I like a 'chunkier' stone-your ring seems in very nice proportion and looks great on!! Keep it!!:smile1:

very interesting! now that i think of it ... a smaller pear sides do look like tapered baguettes... maybe i should go for round side stones to keep the proportion but less "pointy" and "marquise-like" ?

It's PERFECT. And this is coming from a fellow owner of a RB with pear sidestones. :smile1: I'd say my ring's proportions are similar if not identical to yours. And in general, you don't want to risk a re-do unless you *absolutely* have to, since there's always a risk of chipping a stone during the setting process.

kristy! i would love to see a photo of your ring! perhaps that will convince me to stop thinking too much about this! :p

Hi Frankie! Here's a link to a post with pics of my ring. Stats are there, too:

kristy!! OMG that is the ring i have on my desktop that i copied from PS ! your ring is sooo amazing ! i would say that even with your proportions (similar to mine), there is a distinct difference... perhaps it's the magic of Leon Mege's setting?

when i observe my ring with a 10x loop, i do see that my D.Vatche setting is a little sloppy, meaning that the prongs are not the same shape and size (on the center stone), and the prongs on the pears are larger than the ones on the center! would you say the setting might be the culprit and that maybe i should ask leon mege to help out on this?

Well, that's a risky proposition. You would be re-setting all 3 stones, which means you'd be risking chipping all 3 stones. Looking at your photos and mine, there is probably a small difference in the prong style but it's SOO minor that I don't think it's worth the risk of having it re-set...by anyone. Our ring settings are essentially 'sisters,' and I think both are stunning AS IS. :D All the prongs on yours are definitely dainty, even though the side ones are slightly different. (I think that was by design, not necessarily "sloppiness")

Of course, it all depends on your level of tolerance. If something about the setting irks you to no end, and you've tried to get past it but you can't, then maybe you can do something about it, i.e. ask the jeweler to slightly shave down the sidestone prongs so they better match the prongs on the center stone. (but still, the thought of that makes me cringe. So risky!)

My advice would be to live with the ring for awhile. Months, maybe a year...before you decide to re-set it or do anything funky to it. As a point of reference, there is a microscopic chip in the diamond underneath one of the prongs on my center stone, which happened during the setting process. I didn't catch it until long after it was set so by then it was too late to have insurance cover any re-polishing. But I thought for sure I'd pay out of pocket for the polishing because knowing the chip was there really irked me mentally. But I can't SEE the chip -- even with my loupe I haven't been able to find it -- but *knowing* it was there bothered me a lot. Well, now it's been about 3-4 years, and I love my ring as is, chip and all. I mean, I can't even see it, and the ring is no less beautiful. Maybe it's the same kind of situation with your perception of your ring. You are obviously a detailed person (as am I), so I know how hard it is to let go of all the little details. In my opinion, your ring is DIVINE. No need for tinkering whatsoever! :smile1:
