All three of my Anthra GH bags are from SS11 and all are slightly different tones from another...

SGH is straight charcoal grey with no undertones at all that I can see; GGH has definite blue undertones and RGGH is almost straight grey but I do see some slight blue undertones in certain light. I can't see any green in my bags.

Here are pics in natural light....they all look very grey on film. It's only in certain lights you can see the undertones in the GGH and RGGH :smile1:

I picked up an Anthra Velo with RH from Barney's the other day - I don't know if it's actually a 2011 as there has been some debate that Barney's carries previous years. Mine looks more grey and in certain light, blue, but I hadn't noticed any green.

My biggest gripe is the leather. It's more 'dull' and the leather feels thinner - anyone else notice the difference in the leathers? If I find one with a better leather, I'd return this one. I find it odd that different years and seasons have different leathers and different variations in color.

To find out the year, pull the date card out of the inside zip pocket. It states the year and season. For example, 2011 1 would be spring/summer; 2011 3 would be fall/winter.

Leather varies a lot between bags so if you're unhappy, return it and shop around.

Thanks!! I actually just came back from Neiman's and picked up another Anthra Velo. They are both 2011 F/W, but the leathers feel and look completely different.

The one on the left is from Neiman's. It's more smooth, shinier, and the leather seems to be thicker. The one on the right is from Barney's. It's more crackled with bigger crackles (?), thinner, and duller. The pic was taken in bright daylight.

What do you think?

From the photo only, I would choose the bag from Barneys since I love the distressing/texture. However, as you pointed out, thickness and shine is important too. I prefer a bag with a lot of distressing that feels soft and "squishy" versus rough and dry. If I can't have that then I will go for a smoother texture.

The Neiman's leather actually feels soft and squishy as well, and I know from my Black Work GGH with similar leather from 2009 that it will wear down perfectly soft for my taste. I'm just happy I found one!

i would like to get the Anthra Work RGGH but the one I saw at Neiman Marcus Topanga has very obvious green undertone. :nogood: i am looking for a straight grey/dark grey one. how about fading? i heard anthra is prone to fading..

Hi I just got my new Anthra 2011 S/S Velo. I'm really excited about this bag as this is my first Bal purchase! There are undertones to this bag as I do see a mix of blues and greens in various lighting. However, these pictures I took were in the evening and the lighting wasn't so great.

Would anyone be able to tell me if the leather looks ok as I purchased this sight unseen from a reputable website and I have no way of doing a comparison to other Bal bags. How would I know if the leather is too dry, or too thin?
Thank you all in advance!

The leather looks nicely textured and saturated in color. Blue tones are showing up on my monitor but I know exactly what you mean about green tones as well.

As for dryness, it is hard to tell from photos. When you run your fingers over the leather does it feel rough or soft? Even so, I have had bags that felt "tough" upon purchase and softened with use.

Congrats on your first Bal purchase! Anthra is a great color to start your collection. :D

Thank you! I am falling in love with this bag the more I stare and touch it. The leather feels slightly rough, and a little dry. I do not mind the texture, but was just wondering if this is how a bal ought to feel like. I am loving the 'new' bbag smell though. :D

hi, I just got my anthra Work recently. I think it should be FW 2011 but I need to check my paper tag, cannot remember.. :p

I don't think mine is dark grey at all, it has a lot of green undertone, more dark green, almost like a Vert Menthe.. :confused1: I feel that it gets greener to my eyes everyday but I still love it

1st pic: just got it for 2 days (more grey)
2nd pic: taken w flash (phone camera)
3rd pic: close up with fluorescent light
