I've seen fake bags sold on leboncoin in France (similar to craigslist). I actually went about reporting the items one day to leboncoin and the response i got was that they do not have enough information to accept the claim that it's fake. One of the bags said "Balenciaga Style bag"...which would already violate the European law in its own accord, but apparently it doesn't matter. I've also seen a ton of replica bags on gumtree in the UK and no one seems to bat an eye, which annoys me quite a bit because they are advertised as real and the websites are not willing to do anything about it (i do understand that it would be difficult to verify).

If you have friends and family who want them knowing it's fake, I don't see a problem with giving it to them. Maybe you can strip the logo off first if at all possible before giving it away. Personally i don't care what an item is, i just hate seeing anything go into a garbage bin and buried into another landfill :/ Repurposing them is such a great idea. Ce n'est pas un vrai Prada is hilarious.

Platinum_baby, I am glad I am not the only one to report fake items to Le Bon Coin! And ..... to get the same answer from them. It really drives me crazy![emoji48][emoji49]

Not if it's fake monogram merch, like LV and Gucci.

You're right. I haven't thought of that. I thought of metallic logos.

Personally, I'd give them to a charity either way because I don't like throwing clothes etc in the trash when they're in good condition. The people who'll use them won't care if the bag is designer or not.

However, if OP doesn't want that, she can use them to store other stuff (like cleaning supplies, towels etc.)

:nogood::nogood::nogood:
The fact that thrift store salespeople can be duped and then in turn dupe others is a bad thing, not a good thing. And a fake bag does not contribute to anyone's proper attire for work, no matter their economic situation.
Ok keep in mind not every person is as well informed about handbags as the people on this forum. Keep in mind that to you or me, a fake may be obvious but to those who don't follow fashion or handbags much it likely isn't. To be quite honest i think a fake handbag is the least of a interviewers worries, they aren't going to not hire someone just because they have a fake handbag, that's silly.

Also in terms to everyone saying that the next person who may have possession of the handbag can then turn around and try to resell it and pass it off as a real item. That's a lot of 'what if's' in my opinion. You could also POSSIBLY get hit by car while crossing the street. Does that stop you from crossing the street, no. Also you have to put some responsibility on the buyer too, if i were purchasing a handbag worth any amount of money from an online auction website(or really anywhere else other than an authorized retailer) i would get it authenticated and do my research to make sure that what i was buying wasn't a 'fake'.

I'm not saying i agree with the selling or buying of fake handbags but what's done is done and saying destroying the handbag is the only way is a little harsh.

Yeahhhh… Those What If's… happen EVERY single freaking DAY…
and many of us here on tPF ebay Sub-forum help the Buyers to get their money back… It is an expensive and lengthy process.

Destroying them is the ONLY Responsible way of dealing with them…

You said: "i would get it authenticated and do my research to make sure that what i was buying wasn't a 'fake'. "

well, YOU are extremely RARE…. There are even women here on tPF who have no clue how to spot a fake of the handbags they are buying… That is why tPF has the Authenticate This Threads.
MOST people do NOT do their homework and learn how to spot a fake bag.

You even said: "keep in mind not every person is as well informed about handbags as the people on this forum. Keep in mind that to you or me, a fake may be obvious but to those who don't follow fashion or handbags much it likely isn't."

You are right, most people will NOT know to have a bag authenticated.

My friend here in Sweden was sold a fake Prada bag at a Consignment store in Miami…
She paid $2,100 for that fake bag… and was NOT able to get her money back.
She thought it was safe to buy from them, since they are a business. She trusted them.

I'm a SEASONED buyer and I have been sold fake bags from ebay a FEW times,
It ended up costing me OVER $50 just to get my money back from one of those sales.
The seller ended up losing, because I was instructed to destroy the bag…
It's highly illegal to ship a counterfeit bag to another country and it can be
confiscated by customs.
It is VERY possible that somebody else sold her that bag, and told her it was
authentic. If that is the case, she lost OVER $400…

the other one, the markings were correct, so the seller thought it was authentic.
she works at a Charity shop… she then used somebody else's photos
when selling the bag to me…
when it arrived, I knew it was fake and contacted the seller right away and thankfully didn't fight it, so she asked that I destroy the bag.

There are so many people that don't even KNOW that they can have handbags authenticated by a 3rd Party…
You would be shocked at how many bags on ebay are fake, and those
sellers didn't know that they could have had it authenticated BEFORE
they put it on ebay. Many assume that if it is fake ebay will just remove t,
and if ebay doesn't remove it, it must be real.

as for HIRING somebody carrying a fake bag… NEVER!!!!
I would NEVER hire somebody carrying a fake bag, it would show me that they ONLY care about how things appear
NOT about the reality of things…
and if they did NOT know, then I would not want to hire them because they can't even be trusted to research
a handbag purchase properly.
WHY would somebody want to hire somebody like that?

No, it is NEVER a good idea for people to pass around fake bags..
there is just too much that can happen… and then people DO end up getting HURT…

You may think it is innocent… I can assure you, It's NOT!!!

Please do not give your fake bags to charity, Louis Vuitton sued a second-hand clothing shop operated by the German Red Cross because it was selling a counterfeit purse. Don't get other into trouble because normally charity organisation cannot tell real or fake.

I'm in no way supporting the purchasing of fakes in any terms. HOWEVER you spent money on these bags and i think it would be a bit wasteful to throw them away. If it were me i would donate them. I'm sure there are tuns of fakes sitting around in thrift stores and the staff/volunteers don't know the difference. There are still tuns of people who buy bags because they like the style and don't care about the name(or lack of). Also i know in my city there are organizations you can donate professional looking clothes to help homeless/less fortunate people get the proper attire to get an interview and jobs. Perhaps where you live they have similar organizations like that you could donate them too. You could also give them to young kids to use for dress up or even some live theatres often take in odd things to use as part of costumes for plays and performances etc.
At the end of the day you can do what you want with it i personally think that destroying it is a little excessive especially when you paid good money for it. Good luck regardless.

Those thrift Stores that are caught selling fakes can be SUED….

^^ :goodpost:

Charity begins at home. Which means don't perpetuate your mistakes and saddle an unsuspecting Charity with counterfeit goods. A lie is a lie no matter how many times it's told.

If it's a real leather, an animal died for you to use it. Destroying it just because it's logo wasn't originally made by Prada seems unauthentic to me. Prada is made in China anyway.
You've been using it for years so keep on using it. Just be honest about it being a replica.

I do not support fakes and replicas but making a witch hunt out of it is ridiculous. Just don't buy fakes and that's it. If you bought a fake item and used it for years and years and enjoyed the quality, it's ridiculous to be so uptight now about its authenticity.

Don't bother with leboncoin and gumtree websites because they won't do anything.

Thank you! No one is understanding this concept.

Also most handbags are made in China nowadays not just Prada.

I feel like im talking to a wall.

If you think your handbag was different just because you paid a few grand on it then you are seriously mistaken. Even so, you are destroying someone's hard work. Fakes are always going to be around just get over it. If people are too dumb to not look into something then they deserve what they get.

That's all im going to say on this thread.
