Personally I would choose the Rolex, but personally I prefer the Datejust versus the Day-Date as shown in your original post. Reason why... Firstly the Day-Date is the top of the line most expensive Rolex... they use precious metals to make it (its nicknamed the President or something like that because most presidents are seen wearing one). Secondly coming down to personal preference is that I find the complication displaying the days a bit cluttered and somehow in my personal opinion makes the watch face a bit cluttered. But either way getting the Day-Date as your first Rolex is a big achievement so congratulations in advance and use it in good health!
PS. The Datejust is shown in one of the few earlier posts (the silver one with the Presidential strap)
PPS. The reason why I also prefer Rolex is that you can mix and match literally almost everything - from diamond pointers, to Roman numerals, to diamond encrusted Roman numerals, diamond bezel, fluted bezel, smooth bezel, to different straps, not to mention the different materials that you can use as well... so in conclusion, definitely go for the Rolex... you can get the Cartier some other time![]()
This is my first post on this forum. I was debating between Rolex models and I decided on the YG Daytona, I love it. I was told the Daytona is one of their least produced models and hold their value pretty well. If potential resale value is of any importance to you Rolex will always be a better bet than Cartier.
I have both Rolex and Cartier in my collection BUT I have more than one Rolex their designs are just clean and classic IMO.
It is a fun choice to have to make, good luck! Buy what you love you won't go wrong.
I don't have an automatic Cartier. WIth my Rolex watches I have watch winders and I can tell if they are losing time simply by checking them against a clock. They shouldn't really lose much time at all, I'm not terribly precise about seconds...Hi there
I was wondering how do you know when an automatic watch is losing or gaining time like a Cartier tank or a Rolex ? If it should every happen. Thank you

BUT, if you don't wear your automatic all the time and don't use a watch winder. With Rolex watches from their booklet that comes with the watches if you place the watch on one side or the other when you aren't wearing it you can gain or lose time. Here is a link that explains how to keep it accurate:
