NANO SPEEDY - Has anyone removed (cut off) their attached strap?

To cut or not to cut?

One thing to consider - and the only reason I mention this is because it happened to me. Sometimes when you remove a strap like this (which has a tight leather hold to the ring), you end up with a slight problem when adding a clip style strap. What happens is the bag now doesn’t have a correct security and will start to tilt, tip forward or shift weird when moving. Luckily the Nano has pivot points that are higher up so it might not make a huge difference but you won’t know until you do it. My situation happened when I cut off a strap (non LV) and as soon as I attached a clip style strap to it, it would tip around weird and not sit right. It was a light bag and didn’t have enough weight to it to keep it steady and straight up. I immediately regretting removing the strap. I realized why it was designed that way in the first place. The tight leather hold to the D ring gave it a structured ability to sit right against the body. By removing that security, it now was a dangly mess. Not saying this will happen to yours but maybe do some more research on it to see if someone else has tried this, and what their results are. And if anyone is reading this and considering to this to another bag, just take a good look at the design of the bag and see if it will lend itself to a clip style strap connection vs a tight hold leather connection. Hope this helps!

Id say remove it. I just mentioned thinking about removing the strap in another nano speedy forum and was directed to this one by a kind user. Im quite surprised other people are thinking to remove it as well because I thought I was crazy!

After reading this thread I can say I will probably do it as this non adjustable/removable strap is literally the only reason I have not purchased this cutie. I really want to wear it handheld without the leather straps hanging around or tucked in (with the bag unable to be zipped closed anymore) like I see other people do on Insta. If it would not leave your collection, why not customise it to your desire if you can do so without damaging the rest of the bag.
But dont do it if you care about resell value and whatnot

I would have a shoemaker take it off carefully. If you ever want to have it reinstalled you could possibly bring it back to your local store and have it done. Or if you decide down the road to sell it, you could always have the strap replaced at LV. I have done that to a Michael Kors bag and enjoyed my bag the way I like it.

Maybe a cobbler can take out the stitching so that it can be used later on with another bag (or reattached, if you change your mind)?

I would go to a cobbler or something alike to professionally remove it (via stitching) and possible make it into another strap. They could probably add hooks to it too so you could use with another bag.
Also please post pics if you do decide to remove it! That would drive me crazy, I have a couple bags that I’ve cut/removed/changed stuff that bugged me about it. Sometimes you just know what works better then they do. :)

I would remove it, too. It is more versatile that way. I don't understand why that strap is not removable from the beginning anyway...

If you plan to undo the stitching you still have the original strap intact anyway. Actually I agree that putting lobster claps on that original removed strap is a great idea. You will have an additional extra strap.

As someone else said, I would bring it to a shoemaker to take out the stitches and remove the strap. That way you will ensure it is not damaged and will be able to put it back on if necessary. They can also install the new hardware professionally if you choose to go that route.

Take it to a leather place and have it shortened. Otherwise have it removed and sell it, or keep if you plan on selling the bag at a later time, and buy the strap you want.

If you want to cut the strap, then I'd say it'd be better if you just unpick the stitching on the strap that holds it to the bag instead (you can buy a cheap seam ripper from Walmart/Joanns for this purpose). That way at least the leather strap is still fully intact and you could always get someone to reattach it down the line (or you could reuse that strap and attach clips to the end).

But to differ from everyone else's answer, I'd probably remove the strap lol.
I used this method on my bum bag. I wanted to wear it more as a sling and it hit me in a weird place so I carefully removed the straps so I could use a longer one. No regrets at all. I don't intend to sell it, so that's what made the decision for me.

Does anyone have the nano speedy and a (pochette metis) monogram strap? I would love to see a pic of that the mono strap on the nano.

Here’s a picture of the nano speedy with a monogram strap (not from the pochette metis).

I’ll be removing the strap on my nano speedy once I purchase a new vachetta strap (currently deciding on which one to get).

I really want the nano speedy but at 5’2 the crossbody length is slightly too long. I wear my Chanel classic flap as crossbody and is the perfect length. Hoping to find someone who has made it strap shorter without physically altering the bag as it would be my first LV and wouldn’t sell x
