My professor told me Chanel bags are all made in China but assembled in Europe?

It makes one wonder if the super fakes might be the better deal? I have been hearing the boy bag replicas are indistinguishable from the outside and look exactly like the authentic! Now I know why!

I cannot believe you even said that !!! (fainting on the spot).
I could never have a fake anything - would rather have an authentic item at a lower price point.
Fakes are never justifiable no matter how good they are and never a "better deal".

Replicas encourage crime. A seller could pass off a replica as an authentic item. That is cheating. Chanel needs to work harder to catch the replica makers and up the quality of their products so that replicas couldn't be made so easily. Or at least some method to prove the authenticity of their product other than the current hologram sticker.

It doesn't make one wonder at all. There are about 500 posts on this thread and still NO evidence whatsoever that any of the made in china saga is even remotely true. ( well apart from the FAKE CHANEL bags which are ) CHANEL Lambskin classics are made in France, as the label states clearly and some seasonal bags are made in Italy. There is far too much speculation and people who have 'friends' with 'friends' who know people who work in factories in china making CHANELs. There is definitely an agenda here....

I am sure many people have this same question, but in the end, a fake will always be a fake (even the most 'perfect' fake).

Agree, Chanel and many other brands need to do a better job stopping the fake market. Fakes are like garden weeds, very hard to control.

Not sure if another method to prove authenticity would work, it would likely be immediately replicated.

The collaboration of countries where the fakes are produced would certainly help IMO, but the fake business generates high revenues ... It's a very complicated issue!

I wonder if OP had a chance to discuss further the "Made In" issue with her professor, it's an interesting subject.

This is so sad but true.
Back in our grandparents time, they made furniture that was put together with "biscuits" and glue not a staple gun - and it lasted and became the antiques we have today - (can't see the same happening for Ikea stuff today - haha).
And bags were leather and made by craftsmen and that did not mean "luxury" but things lasted.
I love looking in antique shops and you can see how well things were made - from shoes, bags, furniture, jewellery and knick-knacks -
And some of us want this today and this is why we pay top dollar for the "luxury items" in pursuit of quality and excellence - but sadly , many of the products are letting us down in this modern time where nearly everything is seen as disposable.

Preach!

(And re: Ikea, I have even heard of moving companies in the US that will not offer guarantees on the safety of your furniture if it happens to be by that brand!)

LOL! Just because something is made in China doesn't mean that it must be rubbish. China for example produces wondeful silk. So the lining inside the jacket, if it is made of silk from China, surely it cannot be bad?

Also, most of Chanel's wool and cashmere items are made in the UK.
