My opinion of Hermes is changing...

My opinion about the Hermes company hasn't changed much, but what does put me off to the brand is the way the Kardashians, Lindsay Lohan, and others cheapen it by the tasteless getups they wear. Honestly, Hermes should give their employees lessons on product placement. Allowing celebrities like these to wear their creations degrades the brand's image.

I'm going to buck the trend. No, my opinion has not changed about Hermes. I've loved the brand (warts and all) for far too long.

1. I do agree that vintage bags/scarves are better made than present day ones. There are some crafts that Hermes used to have (crinoline and vibrato) that are no longer available or practical to manufacture. Quality issues are the same for all large high end brands (i.e., Bottega, Chanel).

2. When I go to stores that are not my home store, I have NO expectations as to customer service or bags for that matter. Rude SAs have always been part of the brand experience. I just shrug my shoulders and move on. Though I remember going to South Coast Plaza, a store notorious for rude SAs, but I was treated very graciously. I've had mixed experiences with Beverly Hills, London and a few others.

3. My home store has been wonderful to me. I live/work close by, so I stop in often. All the SAs know me there.

4. I have not purchased a skunk product, though I do know people who have. I wish Hermes recognized the problem earlier and treated affected customers with more respect. But I do believe, Hermes is addressing the problem as best it can.

5. Historically, Hermes products hold their value better than other luxury brands, so I can sell bags that no longer suit my needs. I can justify H prices that way.

EB, THIS. Totally agree and you echo my thoughts about H 100%.

I got a B from FSH about 2 months ago, I took it out with me the first time the next day for like 3 hours (max) , the leather on the handle was peeling off and what I have got now is a bag with ugly patches all over the handle.....
I don't baby my bags but this is not acceptable ....
I have to use twilles to cover the ugly handle......
I definitely think the older bags have better quality...

How could this be happening
You must bring it up
To their attention

I didn't think that H did product placements or chuck their ways at celebs :shrugs: I thought celebs had to buy like everyone else (relatively speaking)

I recall the years when my SM would complain about VB wearing Hermes bags.... and degrading the Brand's image .... How much he must regret that time ;)

Yes this is correct.

I want to clarify. That their products are shown on these celebs is degrading (although not all their fault), therefore it has the opposite effect of product placement. Sorry I did a lousy job of putting it into words. :noggin:

WOW!! I don't think anyone should be steered away from buying a bag no matter who they are. If a brand is about quality, elegance, and timeless beauty, then it just is no matter who carries it if they can afford to buy it. Why should it matter who carries it? I think it would be totally classist and egregious to only sell to "certain" people.

I was thinking of starting a thread reminiscing about the way things used to be at Hermes (the quality, the service, peoples' anecdotes). Something like, "Remember when?' or "Back in the Day". Not sure if this has been done, but would love to hear peoples' stories and experiences- it's changed so much.

What do you all think? Good idea or no? I don't think the topic has been done but not 100% sure.

Thanks!

ps: sorry if this is OT.

I don't believe Hermes Nuttynut was implying H sell to select people, but that certain people/celebs tarnish the Hermes brand image in her POV.

I remember Tom Ford when he was at gucci said the same thing about VB! I can only imagine what they both are thinking now! It is a new world out there!:D

+1...It is a new world out there exactly and gone are the days where we can think that only "certain" people should carry a brand because we don't feel they are classy enough or belong to a certain socioecomonic class. Be careful who you judge...you just never know. I'm sure both Tom Ford and whomever that SA was are both eating those words right now!!

I was thinking, Well, you would have to sell only to select people if you think that by certain people (certain celebs) carrying it, they tarnish the brand.
