My opinion of Hermes is changing...

Am following this thread with great interest while waiting for the H F/W 17 RTW online show to begin. It is a complete mystery to me why H is following the strap trend at such a late date ~ have shared my thoughts about this on a previous thread so will not bore you with my reasons.

The two points that I do think are funny are the instances of the SAs introducing to H customers the obvious Gucci knock-offs with a shoulder-shrug and a roll of the eye. The poor SAs!!! If we at tPF are having an H brand moment, I can only imagine what is going on at H behind the scene.

Gucci had a bag that resembled the Trim . I do not know which came first.
I have an old pair of Chanel slides as well as Blahnik.
Fashion reinvents itself & we choose according to the style we like. Each fashion house has their own individuality

BBC I am thrilled with the small bag trend. It leaves the big bags available for me. [emoji2]

I don't know which came first the Gucci Jackie or the Trim. Interesting question. I don't now if the Trim was an original idea but it's an example of a bag that i would be happy to buy.

What do people think of the hardware on the new bags- verrou?
I don't know which came first either. Which one did Jackie O wear? Maybe eagle1002us can enlighten us. I would love to see production of the Trim again. My sister was lucky to have one gifted to her by her MIL before she passed away.

The Verrou has a modern look with geometric design. I take this as a way to appeal to customers who consider current H bags to be too traditional. It may grow on me but it's not exciting to me.

I like to see H focus on its RTW designs instead of following other trends. The new season RTW as shown on a different thread looks more appealing to me compared to past seasons.

I guess I am out of the style loop then! Many of their sneakers remind me of Converse, and having two DSs, that's what I buy plenty of.

PBP I don't spend that much on novelty, either! It's a cool bag, but not reasonable at $5k. I can't figure out why they rested the Trim, although that wasn't exactly a unique style vis-a-vis Gucci (but which came first?). I don't love too many of those either except the small bags. But I have always loved the small bags, can't wait for the trend to end so they can all be mine again!

The original H Trim and G 'Bouvier' came out the same year as did the wider variations Trim II and 'Jackie' so we'd have to have month by month production details of both. Interestingly, Jackie Bouvier/Kennedy /Onassis bought and wore all 4 well in to the 1970s, Gucci still has the receipts and pics (nice to know celebs paid for their stuff then!).

As for the Gucci Princetown 'copy', it is following a trend but of course even the ladies Gucci for outdoors model is based on the 1970s men's slipper, which in turn was based on the 1970s last of the men's loafer, based on the men's 1953 horse-bit loafer which was based on the 1940s American Bass' Weejun 'penny loafer' which was based on a Norwegian slip-on indoor shoe, which basically brings us back to slippers LOL.

Honestly? Reminds me of a bathroom stall.

Despite that, I like the bag. But it seems a few designs are variations on the Constance (*cough, cough* Roulis)

Ok. I'm glad it's not just me. I agree completely. Why make the hardware look like the hardware in a bathroom stall? [emoji15]

I like having an alternative to the H on the Constance, but I find the hardware on the roulis a bit industrial. Again, nothing wrong with it. Beautiful bag, but I don't find it visually pleasing to my eye. I do like the lines of the cherche midi. And I like that it ties into the chain d'ancre theme. But overall the new bag offerings have been duds.

Interesting. Thanks, papertiger!

Except you can't claim individuality when you tell your customers "ours are just like the Gucci slides." [emoji849]

I totally agree & it would turn me off to buying the slides unless I liked the way Hermes designed their version.
There are many scarves by different designers. People can tell when I am wearing an Hermes one & comment "is that Hermes?"

I'm glad it looks modern, it's design goes back to 1938

Whew! Relief! Every time I see that bag, THAT is what I think!

I honestly do not look seriously at many of the bags, as I simply cannot wear a crossbody bag, and I find most shoulder bags to be uncomfortable.

I wonder, though - if H did another B or K variation, what would the reaction be? Do we really want them to innovate, or stick with familiar shapes and themes? I personally love those B/K/C designs and they are so popular for a reason....I don't know if I'd ever own Constance, but the C wallet? [emoji177][emoji177][emoji177] I could see owning multiples, because it's a bit of a twist on a familiar classic, yet designed so well and still super-functional. It looks GOOOOOD. Love the Kelly Wallet too - it's gotta have function AND design - a bit of zing to make the heart sing. [emoji1360]

I had to laugh when someone mentioned Reed Krakoff. Anyone ever see his bags? I don't think he's ever had an innovative thought when it comes to leather design, IMO.
I mentioned Reed Krakoff because he is now the creative director of Tiffany, theoretically charged with reviving the brand in the luxury category. My comment was that i found that unlikely as he's best known for his work at Coach, which was not the same challenge.

The hardware on the Verrou doesn't bother me as much as the shape does - not for me (though come to think of it, the Roulis is boxy and so is the Constance, so maybe it's the shape in combination with the hardware?). I love the Roulis myself, and recently saw a Constance Cartable IRL, which I did not like at first but the more I played with it the more I was won over.

I also love the Bolide, but agree that I wouldn't spend full price on one when a) just a little bit more would get me a K (well, if I could get one lol), and b) they're quite available on the secondhand market often for half, or more, off regular price and in decent condition. For me, it's akin to a brand having sales - growing up I only bought something if it was on sale, and this has become ingrained in me to this day. I could probably count on one hand the number of items I've bought in my lifetime that were full price - until I got to the point where I could buy Chanel and LV and H. Since I know those stores do not have sales, I buy what I want when I want, if I can. Unlike other brands such as Gucci or Ferragamo, where I will wait for a sale because I know there will be one. So, I too wish there were more mid-price (for H) bags.

The Hermes PTB are under pressure to increase revenue for the company/ heirs.
The biggest fear is that the Birkin rage will flop.
Currently, there is an exploration of watch products, i.e the Apple.

Madison and the Men's store will be closed and I don't know where the relocation will be. Hermes will only have boutiques in buildings they own.

That is all for now.
Goodness, I can't even imagine!!
