My opinion of Hermes is changing...

My opinion has most definitely changed after the whole "skunk" bags issue and the fact that Hermes still doesn't have a handle on this problem and that these bags are still making their way into stores and into customer's hands.

I agree with Leah that I am not a fan of bags that are overly carried by celebrities, regardless of which ones; I just like bags, whether expensive or not. That are good quality, and a bit more under the radar.

Regarding completely made by one craftsperson, when did they stop doing that?

I, like many others, am purchasing vintage bags v. new ones for that reason, ans let's be honest, price too :)

i have a question and hoping someone can give me some input. i bought a cdc bracelet in the US six months ago and found a major defect on the hardware. i live in asia, and as soon as i found the defect (it was about 3 weeks after the purchase) i took it to the nearest local hermes boutique whom took in my bracelet with apology and told me that it will be sent back to paris for further advice. i got a reply today from hermes saying that i can have a store credit good for a year at the local boutique. what i want is a cash refund if this cdc was not repairable, and it was a defect and the return was not my "change of heart".

not sure how any tpfer can help here unless they are well versed in the local laws of your country. it is quite a complicated situation as it involves overseas purchase returned to another country. i think you need local legal advice on consumer rights that apply in your situation.

hi chincac, thank you for your response. i am not looking into legal action, just curious on hermes refund policy. i am aware of hermes return policy but i wonder if they have a refund policy in case of defect. you are right about the overseas transaction and it could make the situation more complicated, but i am also curious to know if overseas hermes boutiques would carry out head quarter policy meaning that is it paris who makes the final decision??

Sorry for the issue you are having, but this isn't really the thread for this discussion.

Thanks.

hi there..i don't mean legal action at all. i mean understanding consumer rights in your country and how you are protected. it doesn't matter what H paris decide, the local laws always apply if you are returning it where you are instead of france. so if there no automatic refund for a defective good where you are, then you won't get any unless you think you have a strong case and are prepared to take it to court.

H have to follow the laws of the country they operate in. Of course it is up to them if they want to provide over and above that when they don't have to.

if you return it in France, i think H paris will have to give you a refund since it is a defective good and EU rules would apply.

i am not a lawyer but i do know my rights at a basic level as a consumer where i live. defective goods (not normal wear and tear) - automatic refund no questions asked and i have a few years to claim too.

oops :back2topic:

Well, I still love H. but I can't deny I feel a bit disappointed today after a phone call to H. Hope this is the right thread to post.

I called to ask about status of my order, a Blue Sapphire Kelly. I have been waiting about 2 years now to finally have a Kelly again. My original order was Blue Orage two years ago, but something went wrong with the order and H. offered me a Taupe Kelly instead about a year ago. Since that's not what I wanted, I passed because I wanted a blue Kelly. SM told me that a Blue Sapphire Kelly would arrive soon, within a few months max. He would give me a call when it came in. Until today I have called a few times, but still no Kelly...Today he told me all orders are delayed because of the skunky bag problem. And that people with a skunky bag have priority now. He had no idea how long it would take until my bag would arrive...he had absolutely no idea...
So I asked if he would expect other bags, I really would be interested in a Raisin Kelly phw too...
He said no Raisin, and not possible to order because lists where closed *sigh*...
My order wasn't even a SO, yet I am waiting more than 2 years to finally have a Kelly in my hands again. And who knows how much longer the wait will be...
Then I asked for Tapis Persans 140 silk...but was not available, store didn't order it.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy that H. tries to help the people with skunky bags asap. But I am disappointed that they first send the wrong bag, and now I have to wait and wait and wait, and can't even order a new bag. At least ordering another bag (the Kelly in Raisin), would make the wait a bit more comfortable, knowing there will be two beautiful Kelly bags coming my way.

I still love their products and it's not that I have a negative opinion about the brand, just feeling a bit disappointed right now .

Here is another reason for Hermes making me change my opinion about the brand....
DEFECT....
That's a new word in the World of Hermes....and I don't really like it. :nogood:

I'm relatively new on this forum, but I've been following and reading all of your posts for quite some time now - and I want to put my two cents in, and share my recent experience with the brand.

Lat month I bought a bag from H.com and started to wear it immediately. After 4 days of using the bag, the seam on the left hand side of the edge of the bag, (which usually is sealed by resin) started to peel off and was split in two. The front panel and the facing panel of the bag were visibly divided on a certain spot! I took the bag back to the store, were it got fixed. Deluded the problem was fixed, I started to use the bag again and after 2 days of being fixed the problem reappeared. I then brought the bag back again to the store, they couldn't offer me a replacement bag because apparently that model in that colour and leather combination is out of production for this and the coming season, they didn't want to give me any sort of refund because they wanted to send the bag, back for quality control inspection and it would've taken them 1,5 to 2 months time span to check and get back to me. Luckily enough, I met a nice SA who introduced me to the Manager and she understood the situation and they offered me a store credit.

Nonetheless, I still love the brand but it appears to me that over the time and the increasing amount of costumers, that they might have lost some bits of quality of the years...

Another one bites the dust! I would have demanded a full refund and felt justifiably angry. My opinion of H is changing unfortunately with regards to some of their product categories. I still love their enamel jewelry, 90cm and XL silk scarves and belts but am more hesitant with their bags and GMs. Until I feel comfortable that their quality is back up to previous superior standards, I am looking in to other French luxury brands like Moynat and Delvaux. Maybe a little more under the radar, but superb craftsmanship, which is what I desire. If I buy an H bag to add to my collection, it will be vintage.

VigeeLeBrun, I have been thinking the same. I always had a preference to get my bags straight from the boutique. But now I am seriously considering if I should look for an older Kelly from a reputable seller.
