My Journey with Back of Head Augmentation in Korea

It's been ~5-6 months since my surgery, I can't feel the transplant at all, my scar is also completely invisible. Probably after 2 weeks, I completely forgot that I had surgery, and even none of my family and friends noticed it when touching my head. I had a pretty severe case, and my head shape became great. The doctor managed to almost completely correct the asymmetry.
Hey man have you done surgery with Dr. Song (Jogak) ? Cause when i convert Won to Eur it comes out at arround 4500€ (4950$) , that's alot less than 6600$.

I had the surgery at ittem clinic because it was cheaper there, but I also consulted with Jogak, I think it costs more because it specializes only in such surgeries and it is more popular with foreigners

I found maybe 7 clinics that do similar surgeries and most of them were much cheaper, but they are almost impossible to contact if you don't live in Korea.
Thanks for the reply man . I would love to do this surgery in Korea but now i have only found Jogak (that i can contact) , he's work is truly amazing but 6000€ for back of the head surgery is a bit much right now . I don't even need that much , maybe like 1 cm of thickness on the back and that's it . Could you tell me how could i contant item clinic , is it the headsculptor site? its all in korean i dont understand a thing . Cheers.

So this was a journey that I definitely need to detail because I see no surgery reviews for head augmentation. But it’s a very powerful surgery that changes your head shape and can even affect hairstyles.

A bit about me: I live in California, USA. I’m 25 and male. I’m Indian, and quarter Middle Eastern…so I’m the other kind of Asian. Unfortunately I was born with a stupid skull shape officially called occipital plagiocephaly.

September 2017 – I wanted this surgery done. So I did research online and found 3 local options.

1) Barry Eppley – He offered a free video consult, so I took it. He seemed too positive, which is not a good sign. Also, he’s got a lot of complaints online which scared me. Just look it up on Google and you’ll see entire threads with a bunch of people complaining about botched results. Also a girl called Lucille Lacovelli filled a lawsuit against him, lost, and then committed suicide. So I didn’t want anything to do with him.

2) Youssef Tahari – He offered a free video consult too. His method didn’t seem too good for me. He suggested a bicoronal approach and inserting a silicone implant. This was bad because I didn’t want a scar over my head like that and I didn’t want a massive silicone implant in the back of my head.

3) Deschamps Braly – I called to set up an appointment, but their consultants appeared very snotty. They were quoting prices at $15,000 minimum and averaging at about $22,000. WTF. Also they refused to show any before and after pics due to BS reasons like “to protect the emotional state of their patients from the public”. They said I’d have to come into the consultation, which would cost me $600.

Basically all these options were too expensive and did not have convincing before and after results or testimonials.

October 2017 – I found out about purse forum. But they also didn’t have solid reviews detailing about this procedure. But I did find out some people mentioning ITEM clinic. They claimed that they could make a 2 inch incision and use bone cement (which is a lot safer than silicone) to reshape the head like a sculpture. I did a bit more research and I had my Korean Airbnb host Tony to help me out. I’ll write a separate post on Tony and how AMAZING he was in helping me. I booked the Korea Trip from Dec 21 2017 – Jan 1st 2018

I was able to find 4 clinics that offered to do the back of the head augmentation with bone cement.

1) Dec 22 2017 – Banobagi – Not very impressed. The doctor just said he could do it and didn’t go into further details. I also remember waiting for SO long but I felt let down in the actual meeting. Also, he did not show me any before and after pics. I crossed it off my list.

2) Dec 23 2017 – ITEM – I didn’t like the clinic itself, but Dr Jung was great. I enjoyed meeting him and he speaks very good English. I was close to choosing him but ITEM quoted at 8 mil KRW when over email they said it would be 6 mil KRW. They said they can reduce it to 7 mil KRW if we paid in hard cash. I wasted a lot of time trying to get this to work because, my bank had auto protect--I couldn’t withdraw such a large amount outside of America. This pissed both me and my Airbnb host Tony who acted as my translator off. So we crossed ITEM off. Also, I noticed a Youtube comment by a girl (Aja Ly) on Item’s YT video that didn’t like her results from Dr Jung. This was a bit upsetting.

3) Dec 26 2017 - BONEPS (Doctorbone) – Here’s a link to their site. http://doctorbone.co.kr/index.php?idx=hb/7

They are a local clinic that is not exposed to the outside. I found this out via Tony. The doctors were nice, but I didn’t like the before and after results.

4) Dec 27 2017 – JOGAK – This was it! I met Dr. Song. I liked this guy, his style, and his before and after. I immediately went for surgery. I paid around 6 million KRW. This clinic is a small clinic that SPECIALIZED in head augmentation. I love specialized clinics, so I knew this was the right place.

Surgery was easy. It was under local anesthesia. It’s literally like sculpting with clay. I wore a head cast and I was able to walk about. I went for Korean barbecue right after because I was so hungry.

I hope this helps! I know quite a few people who are following me through this journey. While I don’t have super perfect results, its still greatly improved. I look and feel normal now. I feel no difference texture wise. I’m so happy.

(Note, I usually don't wear my hair so short. I keep it long. I shave it sometimes but this time I kept it shaven just so I could help the surgeon out with the best possible outcome.)

Before: (Sorry for inverting these 2 pics, but it gives you a good sense of the asymmetry)

I had my surgery in this clinic, you can write to them on WhatsApp, at first they may take a little while to respond, but once you book the surgery, they will respond much faster. Also I heard that in Korea it is normal to bargain, I have not tried it myself, but you can try if you want

The asymmetry between the two sides can be easily corrected, this surgery will not make your skull 100% perfect, but it will get close. There are restrictions on some areas, they can't put cement behind your ears for example, because there are muscles there, but it will still bring huge improvements. They can give you a certain amount of cement because your skin won't be able to stretch very much, but if it's not enough for you, then after some time you will be able to get more volume.

Yeah you are right , there is a Whatsapp number on that site that i can contact . If you go to page 6 of this thread , there is a guy called MarioKa , he had classic back of the head surgery years ago . Id like to do one similiar to he's but like 30% less . You think i could get it for less than 5000€ ?

Yes, at today's exchange rate 6600000 won is ~4500€ and ~400€ will be returned to you at the airport when you leave. I paid 200€ for accommodation for 7 days, it was right next to the clinic, but I should have taken something more expensive because it was not a very comfortable hotel, transporta in Seoul is not expensive, I spent probably about 20€ and only traveled by metro, food prices vary, you can eat cheaply if you are on a limited budget. The most expensive thing was the tickets, I flew from Europe on AirChina, with a transfer in Beijing, it cost about 600~700€. I think 5700€ will be enough for everything together, if you do not fly during the tourist season

Thanks for the reply man . Im flying from Croatia , the flight is arround 11 hours which isnt too bad , arround 350€ one trip. The hotel you were in , did it have wi-fi? People are talking about some sim card but i think you can just connect to wifi in hotel/airbnb and have internet like usual . Did you pay to doctors in cash or with credit card? I hear they accept won and dollars , not sure about euros.

You're welcome, I'm always happy to help a Slavic brother. The hotel had WiFi, but I bought an e-sim with unlimited internet for about 10 euros for 10 days(https://www.lguplus.com/ib-roaming/mobile/eng/product/esim-data-voice) so I could travel around Seoul. I paid all the time with a Revolut card, I never had any problems with it, I exchanged the money for the operation directly in the app in advance at a good rate. If you are from Croatia, you can also easily open an account in Revolut very quickly and easily. In Korea, everything went smoothly, I never had any problems. Better download Naver Map, since they do not work google maps for security reasons due to the proximity to North Korea, it may seem complicated to you at first, but in fact it is very easy and convenient to use

Interesting , what do you think is the best transportation? Is there a Metro from Airport to Airbnb/Hotel ?

Guys has anyone considered fat transfer , I have done some research to round the back of the head . Would love to know others input
I have done a lot of research on that. Long story short: many doctors around the world have different opinions on it. Especially Dr. Eppley (who is a famous name also in this forum) provides information on that. After all my research, I would say it is possible to do fat transfer to the back of the head. BUT: the transfered fat has a really hard time staying there on longterm. So you need calculate that maybe more than 60-70% of the fat will get lost after some months. But no one can tell you if it will be 50% or 90%. However it is possible to a limited degree. So everyone who only looks for a very small change of volume to give some more roundness to a specific area could think about it (with the right clinic/surgeant of course). Everything has its pros and cons.
