My bf just asked this:

I have a princess cut, and my wedding band is princess cut too. I think my ring is very sparkly, but that's mainly because it is cut very well. Just like a lot of other people said, you really need to go to stores and try them on to see which cut you like best on you. Everyone in my family has round, so I wanted to do something different.

I personally prefer the round! If I had to do it again, it might be a cushion. :smile1: Speaking of prongs, I have 8 prongs on my stone - it's like a 4-prong, but each prong splits into two before it reaches the top of the stone... hope that makes sense!

I think you need to try them both on.
There are people who love princess and it isn't the right shape for their fingers.

Round looks beautiful on virtually any finger.
I only wanted princess with trillions and tried on a cushion and never thought of princess again.

So, look at them on your hand - that way you'll know for sure :-)

ooh I've always liked princess cut diamonds, but recently I've been liking round as well.. gosh hard choice! I agree with others who said try them on first!

i have a princess cut eng. ring and plan on sticking with this shape even when i upgrade later. i like round cuts too and have that for my other rings. u can do cushion cut to get a sorta mix of both cuts! it's a square cut with rounded edges.

The round shape DOES catch light better (meaning its more sparkly!) PLUS you want at least 5 prongs (or 6 is better). My mom had 4 prongs on her wedding band and about 20 years later 1 of the prongs broke and bye, bye diamond! I don't think you can have more than 4 prongs on a princess cut.

I have a round (over 3 carats) and it is set in 4 prongs but we have it insured (of course-everyone should) and it is taken to the jewelers every six months to have it checked and/or tightened.

I love the look of the four prong set with a round diamond. It allows a ton of light to pass through it.

Round is definately classic. You will love it for years to come!
