My bf just asked this:

I have a princess cut and I love it, but like the other ladies said, you will be better going to a store and trying on different shapes to get a better idea of what you really want. Who knows, you may want a totally different cut from those two.

The round shape DOES catch light better (meaning its more sparkly!) PLUS you want at least 5 prongs (or 6 is better). My mom had 4 prongs on her wedding band and about 20 years later 1 of the prongs broke and bye, bye diamond! I don't think you can have more than 4 prongs on a princess cut.

Go get this book--its very helpful to learn about diamonds and also does a little style thing on settings:

A Girl's Guide to Buying Diamonds: How to Choose, Evaluate, and Buy the Diamond You Want
by Randi Molofsky

available on amazon...

Definitely round  So classic! My bf asked me a similar question a couple of months ago, but (unfortunately) I'm not expecting anything anytime soon :p

Congrats! I hope the big moment comes soon

I have a princess stone, and at each corner there are two prongs, so even if one corner set got broken somehow, the other 3 should still hold the diamond as they overlap onto the other side..... if that makes sense!

Round because it's a classic and will sparkle more. Also, I believe because there are more round cuts available, you can get more bang for your buck because of supply/demand.

Try on some rings and then be really specific about what you want, like gold or platinum, single stone or multi-stone, pave settings or not.... You're lucky that he's asking what you like! Personally I like rounds, cushions, ashers and emeralds - so I think you should try some rings on there are many beautiful styles.

I think Princess cut is beautiful, but as some other PF'ers have mentioned, Round is just so timeless.

I definitely second the suggestion that you go and try on some rings, just so you know what looks best on your hand.

Good Luck and update us with your decision!!! :happydance:
