your reality is not the reality of everyone else and i think that's a mistake you're making. i know several europeans of various backgrounds who would beg to differ. my dh is on business in europe at the moment and has told me different stories.
ppl who make blanket statements like that usually havent been confronted with that harsh reality. lets not kid ourselves... It wasnt too long ago that the German chancellor declared multiculturalism a failed experiment... that made me shake my head hard as hell...

Back to princess charlene!

just as people who make statements that bc they have not experienced it, it must therefore not exist. the world is bigger than your experiences.

and yes back to charlene.

:shrugs: Perhaps you guys are much older than me? Maybe there are some circles where race is a massive issue... I agree culture is a hot-button issue in Europe, probably across all generations... I mean I can imagine people being up in arms about a prince marrying a conservative Muslim, but race -- as in skin color -- not so much.

ETA I actually had German friends when we were living in Cape Town who specifically came to South Africa to hook up with black men and take them back to Germany.

They were totally ?? by the fact that mixed-race relationships aren't as prevalent in SA, probably only about 1 in 10 or 15 r/s are mixed there. According to them, in Germany non-white people are considered unusually attractive & there's no sense of shame or sneaking around. They would use Heidi Klum and Seal as an ideal example.

Anyway, as you say, back to dear Charlene :)

Rainier's mother was illegitimate. She was later adopted by her own father, who was then prince, to make her legitimate. Later her rights passed to her son, Prince Rainier.

So it is ironic that Rainier changed the very law that made him heir, so that Albert's illegitimate children cannot be made legitimate through adoption.
yep, posted that up a few. Very "ironic".

That was interesting, thanks!
no worries.

Her South African accent isn't that strong, it's subtle and more blended. The South Africans I know that I work with and some who have married into my family have much, much stronger accents!

Do you suppose she tried to get rid of it deliberately in order to fit in with her new country?
i'm south african and sound nothing like the south african accent you're referring to (i could hear it here and there when she spoke). that's just one of the accents (we have 11 official languages and many accents too! :amuse:) and it's probably the most distinctive one. i guess that's why it's seen as the "south african" accent when in reality the majority of the people don't sound like that.

so i think it depends on what her background is. or maybe it's because she has been living abroad for years now. i don't think it was deliberate.

*SMH*... all these old European monarchies and aristocracies are inherently classist... why is it a stretch to believe that they have issues with racism too? He better thank god he's a prince b/c he isnt a looker. He reminds me of jason alexander. I dont know how all his baby mama's and concubines do it b/c he'd have feeling like the sahara instantly:p
That's exactly who he looks like.

^^^That could be possible, but I don't regard Wikipedia as completely reliable. Anyone can post info on that site & it isn't verified for accuracy.
I find it amazing how people like to disregard Wikipedia....All it is an aggregate of information that is usually already out there on the internet, which anyone can post to also.

And FYI, longggggggggg before Wikipedia, it was rumored that it was the guard who is the baby daddy. he loves her blue collar men.

But what makes you think that? I've lived in the UK for several years and have family living there still, and I can guarantee you, there's no public ill feeling towards Chelsy Davy or any sense that she's "inferior" to English-born girls. I can't imagine where you got that idea from. Not even the lowest British tabloids have mentioned an idea like that... not to my knowledge anyway.

Yeah you're right that colonies used to be super racist, I think that goes without saying.

I was just commenting that today, the race thing is much more of an issue in the US than it is in Europe, for whatever reason. My European friends never even mention race, it's just not an issue to them.

And let's not forget, Prince Rainier married (commoner, American) Grace Kelly back in the day. And those were conservative times.
I think what's missing here, no one is talking dislike of nationality, or race, but COLOR. I will hazard to guess that's what AGEIS meant. If Chelsey were a Zimbabwean of Color, she would not be accepted as she is. Ultimately, she still looks like the majority/norm/accepted. That's my take.

Yeah, two totally different interviews! LOL They were wayyyyyy far apart and oh my goodness, she needs to lay off the botox. Her face is super stiff!
i wanted to watch their engagement announcement/interview and managed to find it on youtube. they are sitting far from each other and there's strain there it seems. could be nerves or it could be more. there seems to be a lot of awkwardness for a couple who has been together since 2006.

when the interviewer asks, "your highness it's taken you a some time to find the woman of your dreams, do you have to pinch your self and go 'ooh, finally i've found the woman who's gonna be with me for the rest of my days'" his reaction at 3:20 says it all. :nogood:

ETA: i also :nogood: when charlene said "time will tell when this ends" and then quickly corrects herself by saying "up" (@ 4:31).

here's their civil ceremony

my goodness she is exquisite! albert looked more emotional here. maybe the civil ceremony had more meaning for him.
haha, i love the south african flags in the croud.

I didn't say that Wikipedia information is ALWAYS inaccurate, just that there are no verification procedures. I have found several inaccuracies that I had personal information and I have no idea where that information originated.

As to Stephanie & the guard, I had not read any of that anywhere. But I don't state my knowledge of all things.:smile1: ]

Very Ironic that Ranier changed the constitution, since his grandmother, who was the Grimaldi heir was illegitimate and inherited the throne....Once again, hypocrites...hope they have a bunch of girls, would serve the family right.

yep, posted that up a few. Very "ironic".

Yes, I saw that. I should have quoted it in my original response for clarity. It looked like you were talking about Rainier's grandmother. My post was actually referring to Rainier's mother (Albert's grandmother). Also, I was specifying exactly how the law had been changed: to rule out legitimization through adoption.
