^ I've been to Monaco many times and actually lived there for a time so I'm admittedly biased but it's definitely a real country and a terrific country to live in. I'd move there in a second.
I don't feel sorry for Charlene - yes, according to the news she tried to run away 3 times but it was only after the wedding was a day away (which cost around 50 million BP, from what I understand) did they take her passport so that she could be persuaded to stay... not forced. She could've left at any time before that without causing as much embarrassment to the royal family and she could've left AFTER they spoke with her but "arrangements" (read: major financial enticements) were made that made it worth her while to stay. She's been linked to him since 2006 - I'm pretty sure she knew what she was getting into and no one forced her to accept his marriage proposal but she moved in with him because he gave her the jet-set lifestyle that she must've enjoyed.
EDIT: I'd just like to add that I'm against the whole notion of "royal" families and aristocracy in general but some people want that fairy tale... and some women would rather marry for money than love
