^ I've been to Monaco many times and actually lived there for a time so I'm admittedly biased but it's definitely a real country and a terrific country to live in. I'd move there in a second.

I don't feel sorry for Charlene - yes, according to the news she tried to run away 3 times but it was only after the wedding was a day away (which cost around 50 million BP, from what I understand) did they take her passport so that she could be persuaded to stay... not forced. She could've left at any time before that without causing as much embarrassment to the royal family and she could've left AFTER they spoke with her but "arrangements" (read: major financial enticements) were made that made it worth her while to stay. She's been linked to him since 2006 - I'm pretty sure she knew what she was getting into and no one forced her to accept his marriage proposal but she moved in with him because he gave her the jet-set lifestyle that she must've enjoyed.

EDIT: I'd just like to add that I'm against the whole notion of "royal" families and aristocracy in general but some people want that fairy tale... and some women would rather marry for money than love

True, they've been together for years and she converted to Catholicism for him. She had to learn two new languages -- she's had time to think things over.

She has also been living in the palace for a time. No way was she going to be looking like some dewey blushing bride like Diana or even Kate, this relationship clearly has had some bumps in the road and Albert has been a real stinker.

I did find a couple of pictures where she looks a bit happier...

I even found an article from 2008 talking about them getting married.

That family has had a heck of a hard time with relationships, really.

when i say real country i am of course being facetious. it's a country known for parties and being a tax shelter and lasciviousness in general. and i guess the fact that in their constitution they can be taken over by another country if they don't have something so simple as an heir is funny imo.

i'd be princess of a fake country any day even if i had to put up with albert. real.talk. i'd suck it up and look at my pretty clothes and have kids via artificial insemination bc i'd be afraid that he'd give me a disease.

...I'd honestly pass on that whole princess thing but I really wouldn't mind finding out that DH is a billionaire who'd just been keeping it a secret for the last five years :graucho: Then maybe I'll make like Naomi with Doronin (and throw a few phones just for kicks... Speaking of which: that's the real story, IMO -- why Naomi was in Monaco and not in London where "the only Kate in London" was getting married. Aren't they like best friends or something?)

The rags-to-riches stories of commoners becoming royalty... I don't know. I guess I'm a bitter cynic. Local rumor has it that Grace's father had to pay several million in dowry before she could marry Rainier (what a love match! :p), we all know how well the Diana & Charles fairytale went, and there have been rumors of Will cheating on Kate for as long as they've been together. I do NOT know why anyone would willingly want to enter that world of inbred privilege and be willing to subject themselves to endless scrutiny by the likes of me just so they could be the highest paid welfare recipients and dedicate their lives to becoming the best professional hand-shakers around.

As far as the newly minted Princess Charlene, I just don't see how this can end badly... :p

I say they don't leave it up to nature to produce a boy.....They will probably do the 'selective' sex procedure to ensure they get a boy. She will be the next 'celebrity/royal' to 'naturally' turn up with Twins, boys at that!

Rainier's mother was illegitimate. She was later adopted by her own father, who was then prince, to make her legitimate. Later her rights passed to her son, Prince Rainier.

So it is ironic that Rainier changed the very law that made him heir, so that Albert's illegitimate children cannot be made legitimate through adoption.

Hopefully all these children legitimate or not are not too negatively impacted by their daddy's dysfunction and dirty dick...

Charlene looked like her cat died during the wedding.... all that pomp and circumstance but you know DEEP down the man isnt worth crap as a husband. Couldnt be me.... unless we get it in writing that I would never have to sleep with him and I could dip out on the side too, no questions asked. If you're going to make a mockery of the institution of marriage, do it right

*SMH*... all these old European monarchies and aristocracies are inherently classist... why is it a stretch to believe that they have issues with racism too? He better thank god he's a prince b/c he isnt a looker. He reminds me of jason alexander. I dont know how all his baby mama's and concubines do it b/c he'd have feeling like the sahara instantly:p

I may be wrong, but I believe there was some kind of agreement signed a LONG time ago, that releases Monaco from having a male heir, and since Caroline Has kids, it would go to them, and Monaco would still be independent.
