if you are near a local boutique, you can walk in and buy one. this summer, after a long hiatus away from Chanel bags, I walked into my local boutique and asked the first SA I saw for a mini chevron So Black and bought it. (I had seen it on a TPF thread here. The rectangle was a crossbody length whereas the square was too short for me.
If you are concerned about quality issues, it’s best to purchase from a department store as they are often more accommodating re returns and exchanges And best to purchase in person, so you can examine the bag. ( full disclosure: I’m not concerned about dings or a crooked flap etc, bc I tend to be somewhat clumsy with my bags anyway, so after the first outing, I won’t notice Plus I chalk it up to the life of a bag).
If buying preloved, be aware that due to the minis’ popularity, the prices on preloved ones are sometimes higher than retail. An advantage to purchasing from a recommended reseller (like fashionphile or Ann’s fabulous finds) is that they often offer detailed pics and descriptions of condition of bag and accept returns easily.
if you want a neutral like black or beige, I’d recommend black as beige sometimes picks up color transfer from dark jeans. if your style is classic, go with ghw. If edgy, so black hw. If in between, phw. Chanel beige used to be a yellow based beige, but I believe the newer beige Claire is more neutral. I just prefer the greyer or browner Hermes etoupe/etain. YMMV. here is a thread re some of the different Chanel beige shades which opines that the darker beige ones are more versatile year round. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads...the-perfect-neutral-first-chanel-bag.1006387/
