Miley needs to just go back to her roots and do more stuff like this:
Miley Cyrus - The Backyard Sessions - Jolene
Personally, I don't think it's right for anyone to say something horrid about Miley's body. =( We are all women with different body types.
However, I really disagree with people who say that Miley's display of sexuality is self-expression. It is hugely entangled with her desire to become a part of an "urban black" identity. Why her actions and performance at the VMAs was NOT an act of empowerment? Because she exploits the stereotypes of another community in the service of breaking out of her Disney image. She is so desperately trying to get away from that "good girl" persona, she catapulted to the other extreme (not just in sex, but in race). It's superficial, offensive and oppressive.
Her are actions that are MEANT to shock people, but had the completely opposite response. People are embarrassed for her because they don't see a fully grown confident woman expressing her sexuality. They see a desperate little girl, on a sloppy, rocky, road to self-discovery.
Nothing is wrong with choosing to be sexual, crass or both. But it IS wrong when those actions stem from a desire to be an "urban black girl" while lacking the true life experience and influences from that background.
I think all of this body criticism and sexualization is part of why she's so insecure and does things like this. Her body is the only thing shes valued for. Super successful female singers perform half dressed and get criticized if they don't have perfect bodies and that's considered ok. But look at the successful men- completely covered. Robin Thicke looked stuffed into his Beetlejuice outfit but no one said anything about that.
Ladies this is what the entertainment business strives to do....shock you enough to make you talk about it all friggin day long....record sales spike....the real crap going on in the world goes ignored...
David Bowie did it with his androgyny.
So did Annie Lennox.
Alice Cooper chopped off "heads"...
Prince had an onstage orgy.
Madonna writhed onstage in a wedding gown
(Oh yeah and she french kissed Brittany Spears and Christina..)
Lady GaGa arrived in an "egg"...
Next....

Yup.The difference is that everyone you posted has talent. Their controversy challenged people and their boundaries. This did not. This is controversy cause she acted like a little kid attempting to be sexy. It was sad, really. No one will be buying Miley's album because of this...well, I hope they won't be.
This will be my last time int his thread and this is my thoughts and then I am done. I dont know what she is involved in, who is coaching her, or what she thinks she needs to do to look "cool". You cannot under any circumstances tell me this is a normal 20 year old acting out.. that is complete and utter bologna.
However.. she has made me want to work harder and be a better person so I can be a good example for my neice (coming soon) and nephews and one day for my children.. because I will be damned if Miley is going to be a role model for anyone I am close to.
Honestly this goes for the majority of the music industry and now I am very careful what I expose myself to and while I have them around me, what I allow my nephews and soon to be neice be exposed to.
I honestly hope she is rescused or finds help sometime soon.. because if this is a precurser to where the music industry is headed.. you can count me out.
