Michael Kors Michael Kors hardware fading?

The MK stores do not offer services for retouch of faded hardware? :(

My MK bags have gold tone hardware, wish I visited this forum sooner and discovered earlier this potential problem with the gold tone.

I hate to point this out because it sounds superficial, but none the less I think what I am getting at may have some merit.. The old cliche . "you get what you pay for," comes into play here. I know MK has higher end bags that cost much more and I would imagine these bags are made of better materials. When we are finding MK totes on sale for less than 200.00 being offered by Michael Kors, can we really expect those bags to be of the quality of their higher end bags that are 500 dollars and up??

The only bags we have to compare to here, so far that I have seen, from the higher end lines, are the Miranda bags. Can anyone here, who owns a Miranda report on how their gold hardware is holding up??

i want to tell you that I have an older MK Astor bag with gold studs and hardware that retailed for 498.00, over 500 with tax, and all the gold is fine on that bag and is not coming off at all. So it really does make me wonder about A. the price range, and B. the newer bags.

All we are really talking about here are the Jet Sets, Hamiltons, Selmas etc. So far we are finding they all have their gold wearing off. Most of these lines are often found on sale for under 2 to 3 hundred dollars, I really have to wonder if this has something to do with it? Who has any MK bags made in Italy or that cost over 500 dollars?? Is that gold coming off too? I am really curious to find out. If anyone out there can report about the higher end MK bags, I hope they will chime in here.

Unfortunately, no. They only offer a 1 year warranty and it doesn't seem to cover fading of the hardware. At least, that's what I've heard from others who have been told by MK customer service there is nothing that can be done.

My Mirandas are only 6 months old, but I did notice a difference between the materials used on my MK line Mirandas versus my MMK line Hamiltons, Selmas, Sutton, and Berkley. However, I still protect the hardware on all of my bags whether LV, MK, or Coach.

Anyone with older bags in this price range that have NOT faded/worn out?

My Coach and Kate Spade bags have held up better hardware wise. Kate Spade have had other issues. My other older MK bags are silver. My miranda is newer than my Selma and is more premium, but i have used it less than my Selma.

My Furlas held up well. Also the Via Spiga i have for a decade looks great.

Yes, I have an older MK Astor bag that the gold is holding up very well. But then I paid over 500.00 for it with tax. I am wondering if their higher end, more expensive bags are better made? Seems they are. Also, my Coach with the real brass hardware is easily polished to keep it always looking new.

When the gold tone fades does it look like the silver tone version? I'm thinking if and when my hardware fades I'll just make it more even to convert it into the silver tone version lol.

Is it weird that I'm so worried about my bags? The thought of my poor babies having faded hardware.....

No it's not weird at all. We pay good money for these bags and is normal to take care of them. But this is why , besides I prefer it, that I always go for the silver hardware bags. Don't ever have to worry about it.

The problem with MK is, he offers so many bags with gold hardware, especially better colors. I mean, if you're paying close to $400 for a large Selma, the hardware should hold up better. By the way, I've been getting quotes from various bag repair places which specialize in Michael Kors, to replace the bottom feet to brass. Price range is 50-75 which I don't think is bad at all.

I e-mailed customer service and explained my situation and even sent pictures. She/he pulled up when the bag was purchased and seemed interested in solving my issue... crossing my fingers. I'm waiting for a reply. The bag is only 4 months old.

Wow! I see these Selmas on sale all the time for 298.00 under 300.00. I guess it depends which one you get. Yes, I agree it really should hold up better. Hope they give you another one! Good Luck! And real brass would be perfect only it wouldn' t have the engraving, right? But who sees that anyway?? lol! I LOVE these shoe makers. Mine has been invaluable!

And you are right, most of them are in gold. I have a heck of a time finding any in silver. I am sure it is because the gold is more popular. I go thru spells. I was really into gold back in the 70s and 80's but then discovered my silver and found that it looks much better with MY coloring. My husband is Italian with an olive complection and he wears gold very well. Me, not so much. I look much better in WHITE gold, which I REALLY love even more than silver and platinum just tops the cake! WOuldn't that be something if they had platinum hardware?? lol!

LOL I know what you mean about going through spells. Up until about 2 years ago I was a white gold girl. I swore I would never go to gold... until I realized gold suited my skin tone much better. :p Now I swear never to go back to silver. Although I do own one medium Selma with silver which I adore. I think it depends on what the item is. Jewelry - I go with gold. Bags - it can be either way but it has to look RIGHT. I see bags with silver accessories all the time and I think to myself, "Wow, it would've looked better with gold".

Yes, if you have the good coloring for wearing gold, it really is beautiful. I wish I looked better in it but it clashes with my skin tone. I think the silver looks really pretty against darker colors, especially black! But then gold looks pretty with black too! My old Grand Prix I had custom painted to be all black and gold and it was gorgeous! It was originally black with red pin striping and I changed it all to gold and really looked sharp! Lord I miss that car! lol! It was FAST!!

I think shw looks great against neutrals like black, white, grey, etc. I think ghw looks great against all colors and brown tones like red, navy, green, and luggage.
