Marion Cotillard To Play Lady Macbeth Opposite Michael Fassbender

Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard has boarded See-Saw Films’ Macbeth, to be directed by Snowtown‘s Justin Kurzel. Natalie Portman had previously been attached to play the scheming Lady Macbeth opposite Michael Fassbender as the iconic eponymous antihero. Fassbender is still in the mix.

Hahaha, funniest scene in the movie I lol'd the first time I saw it, sorry Marion, I love you but... :(

I agree. For whatever reason she keeps getting cast in English-speaking roles that she does not do justice.

It's a mystery. Isn't her agent the super powerful and influential Hylda Queally? Maybe it's a language barrier thing.

Although French actors often have a different way of working and a different working relationship with directors than English/American actors do perhaps she hasn't been able to gel with the directors she's worked with.

ah well either way she isn't much convincing in English speaking roles...but yeah since her Oscar she has been getting steady work and perhaps because she is pretty and all and they wanted a French darling rose in Hollywood..? Just a theory.

As for French actors indeed the way of work is different but then again an actor one must be able to pull it well. Cassel, Delpy (although she lived in the US for so long), Depardieu, Taghmaoui (sp?) etc. They can do both and are pretty cool. Still, to be fair C. Nolan female characters are very weak so in Inception or TDKR she was just meh of meh. The only English speaking role I liked her in so far was one her first ones, Big Fish. And even so in there she was playing the French fiancée.

^ Cassel is the best!!! Wish he and Fassbender could team up in another film.

Yup Nolan's characters are paper thin. There's also a roundtable interview with Marion where she talks about needing strong direction. She mentioned a french film, in which her performance was nominated for the french version of a razzie, where the director gave her minimal direction, she said after that she realised she was very dependant on the director to deliver a good performance.

I'm not so sure about this latest version of Macbeth, I hope it'll be good but for now I'm keeping my expectations low.
