Isn't it that game where you try and make someone look at a circle below your waist... can't remember what's it's called... if you're successful you get to punch them, at least my brothers used to punch me.

A f***ing annoying game.

'12 Years A Slave' Will Open & 'Bayou Maharajah' Will Close 2013 New Orleans Film Festival

The 2013 New Orleans Film Festival will has announced that Steve McQueen's locally shot adaptation of 12 Years A Slave - starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and several others - will be the festival's opening-night film this year, screening about a week before its theatrical debut on October 18.
The centerpiece, red-carpet, opening-night event will take place at the newly renovated Civic Theater on O'Keefe Avenue.
McQueen is expected to be among those in attendance.
The announcement was made by the New Orleans Film Society, which organizes the annual festival.
Also announced to screen at this year's event is Lily Keber's music documentary Bayou Maharajah: The Tragic Genius of James Booker - another title that's gotten lots of ink on this blog in recent months.
The documentary has been selected as the festival's closing-night film.
Film Society Executive Director Jolene Pinder:
"Both of the films were produced in New Orleans and represent the burgeoning film scene in the city. We are honored that the New Orleans Film Festival will be the premiere for both films. With these two films bookending the festival, we can showcase both larger productions now calling Louisiana home while also celebrating our indigenous filmmakers."
Stay tuned for the rest of the festival's 2013 lineup announcement.
The 2013 New Orleans Film Festival will run from October 10 to 17.

It's funny how he's always seen with women holding carrier bags. He must love to cook a lot or he's too cheap to buy dinner. ;) Just kidding!

I love men who cook (I couldn't cook to save my life) so he is alright in my book. :D

Assassin's Creed has a new writer and release date is slighty changed.

The Assassin's Creed movie is getting a rewrite from the co-writer of The Wolverine.

Scott Frank, who also wrote Minority Report and Marley & Me, revealed that he is currently adapting Mike Lesslie's original script for the video game adaptation.

Frank told Creative Screenwriting: "I'm rewriting Assassin's Creed right now, and what I love about it is that I've never adapted a video game before and it has its own set of challenges."

The Assassin's Creed movie was recently pushed back slightly by 20th Century Fox.

The film, which will star Michael Fassbender, has been moved from its original release date of May 22, 2015 to June 19, 2015.

It was recently reported that Assassin's Creed developer Ubisoft is planning movies based on Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Rabbids.

On to festival season!

It seems he has only two months for that. Which is OK, since most of the relevant festivals will be over in November.

The production company behind TV drama Top of the Lake, See-Saw Films, are returning to New Zealand for their next film project, Slow West.
Described as a western, the film comes from writer /director John Mclean, whose Pitch Black Heist starring Michael Fassbender won a BAFTA last year for best short film.
Slow West is being developed with DMC Film. Lead cast is still to be confirmed on the project, which is due to shoot on New Zealand’s South Island in November and December. The producers are See- Saw’s Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.
See-Saw Films is based in London and Sydney, and is responsible for multi award-winning The King’s Speech, Oranges and Sunshine, Shame and Dead Europe. Their TV drama, Top of the Lake, is for BBC2 (where the series just finished airing in the UK), UKTV Australia and New Zealand and the Sundance Channel.
See-Saw also has a sister company, Transmission Films, an Australian/New Zealand distributor.

BTW, I've heard only about two festivals so far: TIFF and New Orleans, both for 12 Years a Slave. And nothing about The Counselor going to any festivals. Did I miss something?

A lot of bloggers expect 12YAS to turn up at Telluride, but they don't announce their program until the last minute. It will also probably play at the London Film Festival and possibly San Sebastian as well, since the European releases for the movie are in 2014. Those fests won't announce their slates for weeks yet.

I really doubt that The Counselor goes to any festival. It's a commercial thriller. And I doubt Fox is stupid enough to plan an awards campaign for it.

I think this might end up doing well. I've been surprised by how many people I know are excited to see this.

It's kind of hard to pin down. I don't think the marketing has been particularly good at showing anything other than a generic thriller. And most people that I know don't have any idea what it's about. On the other hand, the mainstream adult market is somewhat underserved & there is a chance they'll go to something like this just based on the cast & director.
