As you can clearly see, words tweeted by Toronto International Film Festival director Cameron Bailey, just a few minutes ago!
I'm not at all surprised by that news, and neither should you if you've read my recent posts on the film. I fully expected it to debut at one of the 2 remaining high-profile international film festivals, before its theatrical debut in October, which meant either the Venice Film Festival or TIFF. And it looks like it's going to be the latter.
Fox Searchlight recently moved up the theatrical debut of Steve McQueen's highly-anticipated drama 12 Years A Slave, from December 27 to October 18.
It'll open in a limited roll-out and will then expand nationwide in successive weeks.
The R-rated slave narrative, McQueen's 3rd feature, boasts a rather impressive cast of actors, including: Chiwetel Ejiofor (as Solomon Northup, the star of the film and whose story it tells), Michael Fassbender, Ruth Negga, Adepero Oduye, Alfre Woodard, Lupita Nyong'o, Paul Dano, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scoot McNairy, Garret Dillahunt, Brad Pitt, Michael K. Williams, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson and others.
I expect it to be an awards season favorite, especially in key roles, both in front of and behind the camera, and TIFF has proven to be an early testing ground for Oscar-caliber films. So reviews of the film after its TIFF premiere will be closely-watched.
Twelve Years a Slave will premiere in Toronto.

Yes exactly how I feel. I hope the film is better than the trailer and takes the cast and crew all the way.I hope this film doesn't peak to early. Quite a few films never lived up to the TIFF hype during award season. I quite curious to see this, cuz it doesn't look like a McQueen film at all.
"I think a myth in the business is that we all have everything to choose from. We don’t. I know I’m not at the top of everybody’s list. It’s just that you have to own that place. Like Matt Damon used to say, every script that he got, he knew it had Brad Pitt’s fingertips all over it…and you know, mine just happened to be Michael Fassbender’s, that’s okay. [Laughs] No, listen, he’s an amazing actor, really truly gifted. That was kind of a joke. Every actor is completely different. But you know, sometimes you might read something and think…I have read things and gone, wow, this is amazing and I’ve chased it down and knocked on the door and people have said, it’s not you Tom, we’re thinking of someone different. And my job is to keep knocking on the door and say, let me see if I can change your mind."

They favor each other but their acting styles seem completely different. It must suck not being first choice but at some point every actor gets a hand me down role.I thought this quote by Tom Hiddleston was pretty interesting. I can't see Tom and Michael in the same roles but I get what he's saying. Tom got the 'Only Lovers Left Alive' role after Michael dropped out...
"I told my agent, 'Get me in there as fast as you can, because I know other actors are going to want to lift their leg on this.' It's like, 'I want to mark it. I want to spray it with my scent.'"

Is it really stunt double? Because for me he looks like Michael.
