They still might need their hail marys to confess afterwards to little Jesus what unorthodox things they've done with the Fassbender :graucho:

Hopefully you'll be able to practice lots during your Paris trip! It's the same for me and German, which I originally took up to be able to chat with my boyfriend's family. I usually get mental block or shyness and laziness = I don't practice nearly as much as a beginner should.

Gah! I admire you. I tried to go vegan for many reasons, but ze meat just keeps beckoning me back in its arms.

It's easy if you don't like meat like me.

;)

Ah, thanks for that link. If any of you are in the mood to hear his contagious and hearty laugh, here's a Magic Showbiz interview he did with Jamie Edwards last weekend (Michael, nice movie trivia knowledge with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest & Spinal Tap!): http://soundcloud.com/showbizmagic/jamie-meets-michael-fassbender

I reckon that one must have nerves of steel to work with McQueen, as he does have a very specific voice and does expect achievement from hiring the best and brightest. It's obviously conducive to quite tangible results, but it must be brutal/unnerving at times during the process.

Does anyone know if the Interview print interview is available anywhere? Would love to read the remainder of Fassbender's conversation with Brolin.

Funny interview. Thanks for posting that link. I had forgotten about that interview. Fassy's high-pitched laugh is so contagious.

I think you might be right about McQueen. He is a brilliant artist and he expects the best from his colleagues. That makes perfect sense, but I do think that he still thinks with his artist hat and not with this filmmaker's hat. Of course this is one of the things that make him so special, but I can't imagine it being easy for his co-workers.

From example during a Q&A session, someone mentioned Michael's bravery for doing the film. McQueen responded that actors should be willing to do anything for their art and that he doesn't want to work with people who do limit themselves (i.e. nudity and sex scenes).

I think that's a bit short sighted. This film was quite risky and could have easily damaged Michael's career. We all know what happened with Showgirls. That film ruined lots of careers. I'd still kill to work on one of McQueen's films tho.

I love this one, but the Japanese poster is beautiful too. The British one is crap.

Beautiful poster (I love the mix of those melancholic colours; might be why I love the Jane Eyre one as well) as well as an extremely beautiful trailer, if slightly spoilerific. Great use of the Glenn Gould piece; a change of pace from the H. Escott violons: http://michaelfassbenderarchive.tum.../shame-japanese-trailer-uploaded-for-archival

Btw, here's an interview James Badge Dale does with Collider and he talks about behind-the-scenes Shame insights for a good 3-4 minutes. Check it out, it's pretty good. Dale is an intense man; as light-hearted as Michael is interviews, Dale's like the total opposite. Quite possible that we'll have an Ejiofor/Fassbender/Pitt/Dale roster in 2012... Who needs Magic Mike when this scorching-hot cast will get together?? ;)

Japanese trailer is quite spoilery but I loved it. Didn't like the poster because of the colours - Michael is too yellowish while Carey doesn't look like herself.

For some strange reason, James looks so familiar to me and I don't think I've seen him act before Shame. :lawl: Overall interesting interview and have to agree he is intense but more because of the way he speaks. His voice went up, down, slow and fast with pauses in between. Like a rollercoaster

I haven't been posting because no one else was posting... which is a pretty lame rationale.

Haven't got anything new to post except... did anyone notice already point out that Ben Foster was in the photo of Fassy and Zoe having coffee/lunch together? Check out the guy on the far left with the tattoos.

I remember an interview with Ben Foster from way back where the reporter was commenting on his impressive *ahem* assets, I guess he and Fassy have something in common. :graucho:

Wow, the girl is a right size queen. I read that she recently moved in with her new beau.
Here is a little video of her in a dragon suit. I'm a huge shabby chic aficionado. Lurve her appartment.

He's probably like me. I can listen to french and understand most of it. However I can barely string two words together :P And someone tell those girls that he's a lapsed Catholic so no need to start :p

I'm the same with French and German. If I have to talk in those languages my brain turns to mush and I forget all about grammar and vocabulary and yet if I can write it down instead. I have no problems at all. I guess it's nerves.

I had the exact same thing! I checked out his IMDB page and he was in quite a few tv shows. I probably know him from CSI or something. The Grey came out today and he's in it. I might check it out.

Zoe seems to be very open minded when it comes to her love life and has kept an amazingly good relationship with her exes. Probs gets it from her mom (Lenny and Jason have been seen hanging out)

I'm guessing Zoe has always been honest with her BF right from the start and didn't play games. That may have been main reason why Michael was with her in the first place - nothing too complicated for both of them.

Wait, it says guide to marrying not dating. Not that it's going to help either way. :p

Taking in consideration that Michael's dad is a cook and a German, it would be wiser to learn how to cook some German dishes instead of Irish. :sunnies

Has anyone seen Coriolanus yet? Jeez, that's a cinematic kick to the teeth. I know we're all disappointed about Michael's Oscar snub, but Fiennes is not getting any lurve at all, except from the BIFAs. He deserves a lot more credit than he is getting at the moment.
it's a fabulous directorial debut and an even better performance.

Gerard Butler was really good in it as well and Vanessa Redgrave is brilliant. She really deserved a nomination. I guess Harvey Weinstein didn't agree. ;)
I wasn't impressed with Jessica Chastain. Her performances in The Help and The Debt left me underwhelmed as well. She should have gotten the nod for Take Shelter or The Tree of Life, even though I found both films extremely boring.

Hahaha nice one! Though he admitted at being rusty in speaking german, I've heard him speak a few words of it and it's as bad, if not worse than my own horrible beginner's level (and my hochdeutsch is pretty bad; I've learnt it from Swiss-Germans and therefore add "-li'' to the end of everything).

Michael does sound bad but if he worked on it for a bit and spent some time in Germany, it wouldn't so bad. I do wonder if his accent in Basterds was purposely done to sound slightly fake. I'm fairly good in German and it was obvious to me from the start that Archie Hicox is not German officer.

Mustard - I don't understand a thing of Schweiz Deutsch. Most of the time I like like this -> :weird:

Anyone in the mood to make Papa Josef Fassbender's Kerry lamb? (or as Eye Weekly wrote at the time, wanna "cook like a Basterd"?) Here's the quite unfussy recipe. It used to be available on the Eye Weekly website, but I guess they've cleaned out their archives or something because you can't find the page anymore.

Michael Fassbender’s rack of lamb

The Inglourious Basterds star shares with us his recipe for a rack of lamb — because basterds eat meat - by Michael Fassbender

Ingredients:
2 pieces of lamb racks, trimmed
8 cloves of peeled garlic
1 stem of fresh rosemary
2 tbsp. honey
salt and pepper to taste

Method:
What I do with my lamb is first, salt and pepper the fat, chop up some garlic and rub it into the fat. I add a little bit of honey, sear it off into the pan and then whack the whole thing into a hot oven. (EYE WEEKLY recommends a 350°F temperature). Leave the lamb in there for 15 to 20 minutes with a little sprig of rosemary on top — and then you’re done. It’s great because all the juices cook through the seasoning, so it’s both tender and moist.

This looks like a nice recipe but I'll pass. I'm a carnivore but can't eat lamb because of its smell.

Didn't his dad used to work at the Savoy in London? If he did, then he's probably used to the finest French Cuisine. No sure he'll be impressed by a large plate with Sauerkraut a puddle of gravy and wurst on the side. Those girls might wanna learn some Japanese dishes instead, considering that that's his fave food.

I had the exact same thing! I checked out his IMDB page and he was in quite a few tv shows. I probably know him from CSI or something. The Grey came out today and he's in it. I might check it out.

If he was in CSI, then mystery is solved. Their casting directors tend to put 1 actor in all three shows, not necessarily because of storyline overlap. As a former CSI afficinado, I must have seen James there at least once.

I'm planing to see it soon, next weekend probably.

If anyone is interested in seeing Haywire, save your money and rent DVD or Netflix it. I like to watch thrillers and spy movies and thanks to my dad, I've seen loads of good ones and bad ones. Haywire is simply boring and it's not even a pop corn fun like The Transporter. I didn't have high expectations but didn't expect to fall asleep either. Good thing is that I didn't pay for tickets - I got them for free.

Am having mental images of sauerkraut, käsespätzle & kartoffelsalat dishes and am suddenly not sure if it makes oneself suddenly more irresistible to l'opposite sex ;)

I find that James Dale looks like your typical yoga master/teacher. Just me?

Oh, and there are new photos of Fassbender (probably for an interview photoroll), but they're not very spectacular; it looks straight outta the set of Boogie Nights! With the spread out collarshirt over the motorbike jacket... :graucho:

Ooo! Where?

LOL that makes two of us. I still don't understand german nor swiss-german well at all, but I can definitely tell when swiss-german is being spoken because their tonalities sound so sing-songy with a heavy emphasis on rolling their "R". It would be kind of like someone trying to learn to speak "international french"... from a québécois teacher. Our accent can be strong.

Ejm: these? http://michael-fassbender.us/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=225 . Maybe they're not new, I've just never seen them before. He's one of those men who look so good undressed rather than with clothes on (bought W mag earlier today, which reinforces this idea in my head).

A journalist asked James Badge Dale for his reaction to Michael's snub (Dale is doing press junkets for The Grey):
I also spoke to Dale about his role in last year’s critically-acclaimed film “Shame,” which co-starred Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. I asked the young actor what he thought about Fassbender—who many critics believed gave one of the performances of the year—being denied an Oscar nomination for his performance.

“I was shocked. I was surprised,” he noted as if he had just heard the news. “Michael Fassbender is one of the most concentrated specific actors I’ve ever worked with, and he can tell a story with a look,” Dale said. But Dale thinks that Fassbender has a long career ahead of him. It’s “definitely not the only performance people are going to be talking about in his career.”
