Well said ! ;)

I'll have the new flavour of the year over the same old crap of the decade any day.
Too much Clooney is more than what I can handle at this point :nono: (Best Actor & Best Director nods at the GG, really?)
He surely can nab great roles in Hollywood but his status prevents him from ever shining on screen (fame costing him his chameleon quality).
Looking back to his career, I've concluded that there are three types of Clooney movies:

1. Clooney as a wacko character - aka a crazy version of George Clooney ('From Dusk Til Dawn', 'Leatherheads', any Coen Brothers collaboration).
2. Clooney as a charismatic leader or handsome badass - aka a George Clooney version of George Clooney ('Ocean's 11', 'Michael Clayton', 'The Men Who Stare at Goats', 'The American', 'The Ides of March').
3. Clooney as a Regular Joe - aka an emotional version of George Clooney ('Syriana', 'Up in the Air', 'The Descendants').

Great actors (Fassbender, Oldman, Shannon) don’t need PR games to get media attention.
So-so actors (Clooney, Pitt, Dicaprio) do, enough said. :smile1:

OMG, I laughed so hard at this! Did NOT expect that at all. I guess Karma is making it up to him.

Anyone who can get larger pics of the Fass and Chastain from this site has my profound gratitude: http://www.patrickmcmullan.com/site/search.aspx?t=person&s=michael fassbender

I LOVE her. She's stunning and talented. If he were remotely attracted to light-skinned, light-haired women, I'd be rooting for a mega-talented ginger couple.

Jessica is the kind of girl he should marry not just date: she's super talented, down to earth, pretty and single! her
But like you said the man is clearly down with the swirl and nothing can be done about it

Grab a drink. Here's Lainey:

Michael Fassbender collected the Spotlight Award last night at the NBR. Well it’s about time. I feel like Fassy’s lost a little momentum. You’ll recall, he was not nominated for a SAG. And with the race so tight this year, even though he deserves to be included, I don’t know that he’ll make it to the final five when Jennifer Lawrence calls out the names on January 24th. It’s certainly not a lock. Especially when he hasn’t been out there, working and hustling like the Clooneys and the Pitts and, yes, even the Oldmans. Oldman was definitely campaigning last week in LA and Palm Springs. Rather diligently, in fact.

If you’re a Fassy fangirl, you’re probably all like - yeah, well, my boy doesn’t need to suck dick for an award, he’s all about the art!

Well…

You remember when he bailed out on the A Dangerous Method premiere at TIFF because he wanted to go back to Venice to pick up his Best Actor Award, right? That was a poorly played campaign move, but it was a campaign move all the same. As for why Fassy hasn’t been present on the campaign circuit so much as the others, I suspect it has something to do with cash money. There just isn’t enough of it for him to be able to compete on the same scale with the others.

There you go, Fassy fans. He’s the 99%.

We’ll see more of Fassbender later this week. He’s expected at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday.

Yes , Jessica is lovely.

And people fall in love with men and women who are not their type all the time.
So Michael could end up with someone who looks different than his usual type , if he gets to know her and falls for the woman's personality.

@Fandora: You know, for as incurably charming as he is, he also wheedles his way out of potentially really annoying reporters' Qs with lots of easy grace. Kudos to the Fass. (but I'll disagree with him re: Handler who's just unclassy in all the possible ways).

Haha re: Lainey. Perhaps I'm dead wrong on this, but while most best actor contenders (coughCLOONPITTDUJARDINcough) have been working the circuit HARD and in the most obvious, pandering way, I've noticed that Fassbender's been actively promoting the movie mostly in festival and premiere context. As in, he dove head-on for the American and UK premiere junkets and interviews, but hasn't really been self-compaigning otherwise, via recognition at Palm Springs Fest/soirée thrown in his honor/appearing at every unrelated PR event/get a girfriend and milk it in media way. Methinks Lainey and others are so used to normal Oscarizing tactics that they assume his lack of all the above = insufficient campaign funds! But yeah, I see how it could looks that way to outsiders looking in, since it feels like Pitt is gaining major momentum in winning critics's choice and in the media, and it's been more quiet on the Fox Searchlight front. Perception... it's all about perception.

By the way, the Empire interview with him and Steve is a good read: open the interviewer's PDF article via his personal site http://nevpierce.com/articles.

Lainey continues to be *****y and kind of clueless.

Thank you! So resourceful. Now, can anyone ply their talents for these:

Michael with Carey here:

And a tweet about Michael's arrival at JFK airport in NYC:
" At JFK airport in NYC waiting for my sister to arrive. Pick-up guy next to me has the name "Michael Fassbender" on his arrival sign."

Clooney makes a mockery out of a business that used to be only about the art and craft of good acting and movies, his PR should’ve been fired a long time ago for trainwrecking his reputation by making a famewhoring fool of him :nogood:

Since when is adopting a cocker spaniel and telling People magazine about it (and posing for a photo with said dog) pandering? I mean really... ;)

I think Brad and George are aging out of being Brad! and George! and there is some sympathy in Hollywood over their decline and that will work against Fassbender who clearly has many good years in front of him. Also, a lot of the awards seem to not be given on the basis of the performances in question but rather for lifetime achievement, the voters feeling of "isn't about time we gave you one of these?", general balance in the balloting (old vs young, type of project) and general familiarity. And pandering is helpful, I think Colin Firth campaigned pretty hard last year to get his win. He should have won the year before for "A Single Man" and perhaps he thought he'd better get out thesre and win some people over.

And while people like MF's performance a lot, there isn't a lot of love for the movie itself among the various bodies giving out awards, at least not so far (am expecting the BAFTAs will be better). None of these things are going to help MF win. On merit alone I think he should win but HW is not a meritocracy, unfortunately.

Maybe I'm being deferential to Firth because I really quite like the man :smile1: and he's not in the Hollywood scene despite being A-list level, but I feel like Clooney and Pitt are being shoved down our throats right now, moreso than the usual "vote for me or the movie, please" (a happy medium bc there are also people who don't campaign at all, and their performance is still being nominated just on name recognition alone).

Man alive, that picture between Chastain and Fassbender is cute. He's slightly bowing his head in deference and smiling with the eyes; she seems happy to greet him for the first time. All hail those lovely gingers :king: :queen:
