When you feel the need to slate good people for spending Christmas with their family :hysteric:

What a bunch of garbage. I'm an Australian on the east coast and the absolute arrogance to comment this way when you have absolutely NO idea of the suffering taking place here at the moment because of the bushfires. Just to defend your precious couple.

Tourists were asked not to come. Not even to see family. We are currently in the middle of the biggest peace time evacuation our country has ever seen. Tourists and external visitors put the lives of our frontline responders at risk. They clog the roads and take up resources that should be used by locals in an emergency such as this. (as witnessed by the current 10hr wait to do a normally 90 minute drive up one of the main highways...families are sleeping in cars).

People are being evacuated from beaches by our navy because they cannot escape any other way.

I’m as aware of this as I can be through international news. My point was not intended in anyway to arrogantly dismiss the seriousness of the disaster that is currently taking place in Australia. If that’s how it came across then I apologise unreservedly and will have the comment deleted if possible.
My actual point was aimed at someone knowing nothing of people’s personal circumstances, assuming this couple turned up for a Christmas celebration in the sun with no knowledge as to what is actually occurring with the family. From past comments, I feel this persons comment had nothing to do with genuine concern and more to do with taking a regular pop at said couple.
Seeing as how insignificant this is in comparison to the suffering people like yourself must be currently going through, I will say no more on the subject, other than to wish you safety.

I’m sure nobody would be unaware of the dreadful situation with Bush fires in Australia or the suffering and devastation caused.

However, Australia is a large continent and Alicia’s sister lives several hundreds of miles away from the disaster areas. As far as I can tell from the Bush fire maps there are none there or in the surrounding locality. Hopefully it will stay that way, according to the weather news rain is forecast there for the next couple of days which will hopefully help?

Your assumptions were wrong. Please don't make this about me when my comments were about what Australia is going through.

@FreeSpirit71 I have to ask. Have Australian officials asked visitors to not come to the country at all? Or is that people are advised or urged to stay away from the affected areas?

Authorities in the affected states have directed all tourists, many of whom are Australian, to leave affected towns. Thank you for the question, it is an important distinction.

Life in Sydney has been normal, save for the horrendous smoke for months now and the emotional toll of the suffering of our countrymen. We have been spared at this stage from real loss. The smoke has reached our neighbours in New Zealand on four occasions now.
