Update:
My wife just pointed out that the green Taiga is actually wrapped in newspaper at the bottom of the box where the Monogram bags were. Again lots of mould, that wiped off and the bag with a quick polish looks like it came out of the Tokyo dealer last week. I just put a Macbook in it. As I posted earlier, it hardly had any use when I bought it, as circumstances changed shortly after.

The others:

The document bag has cleaned up fine, the powdery dust of the pocket lining has vacuumed out completely, and it is totally useable.

The Fermoir is beautiful outside, but the centre pocket is a big sticky gluelike mess. Much worse than I had first thought. I did a load of googling, and spent a few hours with paper towels and nail varnish remover. Horrible sticky job, working in a narrow pocket that sticks to my hands with every move. 80% done, I tried another solution - pouring talcum powder into the pocket. This weekend I will have another go with nail varnish remover. Last resort, I will either stop using the centre pocket, or take the bag into LV and ask them to fit a new pocket.

Or I could just put them all in the box, or throw them in the bin, and buy a new one from the LV store.

What's the likelihood of them reviving the Macassar men line in 2020? I would like to have one bag with a classic monogram print but there aren't any nice ones atm and the porte documents is too formal for everyday use/not casual enough.

At the end of the day I'll probably say **** it and buy a speedy b40. I know it's classified as a female bag but to me it's just a small keepall ;)

Unlikely. Macassar references keep disappearing from the catalog.

Oh no why? Macassar is my jam. Did the line flop?

Gotta say showing the avenue macassar at the SS20 was just cruel if it turns out that they won't release it
They have released a few pieces here and there over the years... but it seems that the line overall has been more or less abandoned. This is sad because I love Macassar myself. Monogram Eclipse has really taken over in the Men's collection.

What do you think about this piece? It's a pre loved Bass pm in great condition. Are they rare to find? Not sure if I should pull the trigger.

@captaincustard I appreciate your update. Great job on the DIY cleaning. You should definitely use the Taiga and document bag. If you feel so inclined please post a photo as I always like to see nice bags!

Since the exterior of the Fermoir looks good I think that taking it into LV to at least inquire about replacing the inside pocket is a good idea.

Before its release I was crazy about the Eclipse Line. But when I saw it in person... no. And I'm still not getting it. I don't know why, but it feels so dull.

I only have one piece in Eclipse: my Pochette Voyage MM. I bought my husband a wallet in Eclipse as well. Although I prefer it to the DG canvas, it doesn’t make my heart sing the way Macassar did.

What do you think about clutches for men?
I thought that they might be very useful for going out to more sophisticated places. Do you use one and what is your experience?

Thanks everyone, for the comments and advice.

Update:
The Taiga now holds a 12.9 iPad Pro and keyboard, and a notebook. Everything fits fine, the bag is light and unobtrusive. Its serving as my “average light day at the office” bag. I dont think anyone recognises it as LV, its just a nice green (actually Rolex green) laptop bag.

This bag didnt get a lot of use, and its rather like having a brand new one.

The Document Poche has a 13 inch Macbook Air in it, plus a notebook. I love the older style MB keyboards, and this is my “type up a big document” bag.

Despite being Monogram, this bag isnt really getting any attention either - rather like in the 1980s. For some reason no one notices it when it is tucked under your arm.

The Fermoir internal zip pocket had been “acetoned” and talcum powdered, and has a plastic document sleeve inserted. I could now safely use it for papers, although to be honest I think I will leave it zipped up and empty. I have a 12 inch Macbook in the bag, plus mouse, charger, mini dock etc, and a notebook.

I have taken it to the office once so far. It was noticed but not commented on. When I used it in France in the early 80s they were not uncommon, and if commented upon it was in a very complimentary manner. I am not sure it will be the same in Sydney.

Note: Because I use cloud based storage and have Microsoft office on all three computers, there is no problem with document continuity. I can start on one, switch to another and finish on the third.

I will post some photos in a final update. Again everyone, thanks for the advice and encouragement.

This is the taiga bag. Not bad after 20 years squashed in a cardboard box.

I have managed to get fingerprints near the clasp.

The photo is taken on my wifes desk. That LV Monogram bag was a present from her brother at least two decades ago. It has been at the bottom of the handbag wardrobe for years. Now apparently my job is to make it look new.
