Thanks! What design issues have you encountered?

Hey BZ,

The first thing I've observed is the slight tilt in the bag when placed on a flat surface which is caused by the external pocket. The external pocket is just an extra piece of canvas attached to the side of the bag and therefore adds bulk at the bottom edge where two pieces (instead of just one piece on the opposite side) are stitched together and meet the base of the bag. The bag hasn't been designed to compensate for this and leans slightly away from the pocket side as a result.

First world problem, I know, however something you would expect to be thought through properly in a bag of this price.

I suspect the external pocket (and its integrated leather strap used to loop onto rolling luggage) was a relatively recent addition to the bag and that the original design had no external pocket, much like the regular PDV today, with the pair of leather strips running down both sides. In fact, the leather strips still run down both sides of the GM but are covered on one side by the pocket which only adds to the impression that the pocket is something of an afterthought.

But like I said, first world prob :-)

The second issue is the fixing method of the two D-rings on the short sides of the bag, just below where the zipper ends. These are where the shoulder strap are attached. The 'T' shape piece of leather which holds the D ring in place is prone to tearing over time if the bag is carried cross body style as the straps pulls to one side and puts great stress on the internal corners of these leather pieces. I find I don't use the shoulder strap much anyway and this is partially because I'm aware of this weakness.

Despite the above, I really love the bag, it's form factor, capacity, internal organisation, canvas finish (great in bad weather) and the DG print. Glad in a way to hear that it's to be discontinued - makes it even more special!

Thanks for reading this essay and enjoy your bag!! [emoji3]

I bought a PDV (regular ) several years ago. The bag cracked on all 4 corners after short time! :)
Off course LV gave me a new one short after.

Hi Dorf, I haven't had any cracking (thank god), my original bag has a tiniest crease in the soft triangular piece of leather on one corner. Sherlock Holmes wouldn't have picked it up. But this was my first piece of LV and got a bit obsessed so asked for a swap which they kindly provided. [emoji3]

I'm quite sure it was just a production fault on this particular bag. The leather corners was stretched too tight, and cracked after a while.
